Animal Smiley 019 When it rains it pours!!!

I thought things where going quite well with the ten weeks of potty training with Jack and Mandy. Then it started yesterday as soon as I said wow they have never pooped or peeed in their crate bam!!! Yesterday my hubby and I went out on the boat for about 4 hours came home to poop all over the crate and them, stinky!! In the bath they went. Then after everyone was bathed and cozy watching TV I went upstairs and hubby was laying on the other couch. Jack must have got up in the 5 minutes I was gone and peeed on the couch. ( both accidents Jack)

Besides Jacks peeing incident, Mandy has not had an accident in over a week and had one yesterday in the blocked of kitchen area. Oh yeah Jack also went chasing after a kid walking down the street and they have been so going staying in the perimeter of the yard.

Ok I just wanted to vent!!!! We will pick up where we left off and on we go

I just feel a bit discouraged I was hoping to be a bit further ahead during my 3 week vacation and starting school on monday.

In my experience over all the years - (this will make you feel better!!) :-
Just as you think they are housetrained and you are SO proud.... they regress and have silly accidents .. just keep going and praise them etc when they are good and I really think this is the last stage in training --- I've had dogs for 30 yrs ... don't despair!! Ana xx

Thanks for the words of encouragement Ana. I think my biggest fear is that I won't be able to housebreak them and I will have to keep rooms blocked off. I really want them to be able to free roam the house. I realize that it takes time but it really stinks when everything happens in one day!!!!! I think a big part is that my husband is so so picky and see's this as regression. Where I see it as learning something they havent quite gotten yet and we are moving foward. I guess its like the half full, half empty glass thing. haha. Thanks again for the support

It really is odd how that happens. In my experience also, you can start out with what seems like an unnaturally intelligent pup and then BAM, they go brain dead for a while! I don't get it either and you'll find yourself saying "But you KNOW better. I saw it for myself! Why did you do that?". Sure takes a toll on the old nerves, doesn't it? Good luck!

You know, I wonder if they are like 3 year old kids and just get "too busy" to go where they are supposed to? I'm glad you posted this, because my 15 wk old Scout, is doing so good right now. I will expect this "phase"....LOL

Yes, it is just a part of life but its kinda like you forget for awhile and it creeps up on you and kicks you in the butt!! to make sure you are on yours toes!!! I can say that I prefer Jack having the accidents because he is only 4 months. Its definitly easier to accept. I think the older the dog the harder it is to break the habits.Well I am also glad I am not by myself

Susan was doing reasonably well until the deal with fox made me start keeping her on lead all the time. It's like she thinks she CAN'T go if she's on lead. Well, it could be worse. This is not the sort of thing you want find out on a trip, so it's good to work with it now.

Thanks Kimberly I am glad you feel for me. I always seem to do things in pairs. I have two cats also.

Don't feel bad Mollie is 19 months old her babies will be 5 wks old on the 31st and I've noticed several places in my kitchen between the table and window where she has pooped & peed. So it will be back in crate whenever I'm gone. Hopefully this won't take too long to remedy.

Good Luck

My baby is almost 11 months old (sept. 1). He has free roam of the house all the time. He was quite easy to train and ocasionally he will go pee somewhere or poop. He doesn't do that very often but it's so weird because he knows where he should do it. It's almost like he is trying to say " ha ha, look at me, look what i've done!!! ". I get upset with him but then i end up sooking him like a little baby.

I think that is one of my biggest fears because I had a dog (beagle) no matter what I did she could not be housebroken.I am talking years of trying. That was also my first experience with a female. That was such a nightmare. It was so hard to enjoy her because all she did was pee and I took her to the vet and they could not find anything wrong. I was told it was because we got her at 5 months and she was a kennel dog. Oh well I just hope everything works out in the end. Thanks for all the input
