I Love Thor Donating Member | Hair due and clothes I just have a question about 'top-knots'(?) I think that's what they are called. Anyways, my doggy's hair seems to be growing kinda slow, so I haven't really tried to put his hair up, and now it is getting to a length that it could be put up but he just hates it. He shakes his head (as if he was wet) and paws at it, and it will only stay in if I do it tight with a rubberband. I have seen in some of the pictures of other dogs on here that some of their little hair do's look looser. Any suggestion? I do like the spunky look, with the wild hair all over his face, but as it continues to grow (hopefully ) I should put it out of his face, I just don't want to torture him. As with his clothes, he really doesn't spend much time in clothes but as winter is creeping up on us all, he will be wearing more clothes to keep his precious body warm. When I ut him in clothes now, he acts like he can't move!! He just stands there looking really confused!! Poor little guy! Does it just take time for them to get used to these things? |

| I think the trick is to get them used to it by doing it daily so it is routine and he leaves it alone. It will gradually bother him less and less and it will actually get to a point where it will bother him NOT to have it cuz he is so used to it. Sort of like wearing a ring on your finger....at first it feels wierd, but after months of wearing it if you tske it off it feels wierd without it. |

| Yeah I put a bow in cocos hair whenever we go out. She is now used to it and if she sees a bow in my hand she jumps on on the couch and lays down and is very still untili I put the bow in. She then goes and sits by the door to wait for me to go out. LOL...This surprised me the first time she did it. But at firs she did try and take it out and paw at it. I also have a tiara hair clip for her that she does not like. She will take that out. I think because its a little heavy. But the bow that I put in is the kind with the rubberband on it. |

| it takes time for them to get used to it. Gus still will run off and roll around after I brush him out and dress him. He used to fuss with his topknot all the time, now he is totally used to it. It's funny because my mohter in law tells me I have Gus like my daughters. When they were small they had very very thin hair. So I would have to put their ponytails tight. My mother in law would feel sorry for them and would losen them or even take it out. As they got older, and they would stay the night over her house and when it came to doing thier hair they would complain because grandma didn't do it tight enough. She tells me that Des's eyes stood slanted because of it. (which is just a joke and totally not true) My husband has slanted eyes. She was just born with big beautiful slanted eyes. She comes here and will do the same thing with Gus. She comes and losens his topknot and he goes nuts trying to take it off because it is not firmly on there. As far as clothing,,, It's been so hot here I really don't dress Gus all that much. He is fine with his shirts, but he's pj's and pants or shorts,,, forget it! He hates it, and will just sit there too. After a while he will get up on his 2 front legs and walk that way. It's too funny! Just keep up with the topknot and if it's too hot like here,,,, dress him at night when it gets a bit cooler so he can get used to it. Good luck to you

It does take a little getting used to. My Yorkie actually doesnt mind clothes at all. She will mess with her topknot though.

| I use rubber bands also. The kind that have a cloth coating. And yes, it does take some time for them to get use to it but eventually they will leave it alone. Try putting in the topknot and then giving a favorite treat or toy to try and take their mind of it. We use to play fetch after they got their hair done. As far as clothes go I think there are some really comfortable things out there that are lightweight and allows free movement so they don't feel so confined. |

| Yes my little Porscha still trys to take her top knot out when I first put it back in after her bath and she will run along the wall when I put clothes on her but after a little bit she is ok. Back to the top knot I have been using rubber bands for a while now and I took her to a groomer that use to be a vet and she told me I was putting them in too tight and it was giving her a "hicky" as she said on the top of her head and not to use rubber bands anymore. I don't know what to do b/c she is able to get other ties out with no problem. Personally I think the groomer doesn't like the top knot b/c she suggested I get her hair cut shorter and not have one. So I would just keep an eye on how tight you put them in his hair! |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | He sounds ALL boy doesn't he ? When I first started putting bows in I used little bands and never made them too tight - the girls never seemed to mind them and got used to it really fast....With clothes - That description was too cute - maybe a light t-shirt to start him in ? Something big enough to move in but not too big that he trips over it. What I did with Cheri when she had her first shirt on was...take her outside in the fenced in yard...put her shirt on and RUN across the yard - she raced after me and forgot she had something alien on her body - When she started rolling around in it - I called her again and ran across the yard again and a few times of that made her forget the shirt. I had lots of Distraction Tactics just for my girls when they were little Hope this helps |
