I weighed Buster on a whim earlier and he's at 6.5 pounds! He's only 4 months old LOL.. I think we've certainly got a teapot!

I'm also wondering.. is there a reason to register your dog if you aren't planning on showing or breeding or anything? We are getting him fixed when he's a few months older and he's not going to be shown or anything so I'm not planning on registering.. just wondering if I was missing a reason I should or something.

He's adorable! I also have a teapot. Ranger is 11 pounds at 11 months. More of him to love, I say!

I didn't register him simply because he is just a pet. I didn't think there was any reason to spend money on it.

I registered Joey with the AKC, even though I wasn't breeding or showing because I believe in what they are trying to accomplish. The price for registration is nominal, only $20.00, and I believe it helps keep breeders honest. Some unethical breeders are counting on people not registering, and so the AKC would have no way of knowing how many liters they are truly having, and wouldn't be as likely to do frequent inspections, if they thought it was a really small breeder. Also, DNA testing isn't required if the breeder produces under a certain amount of liters each year. In addition, many people thought there puppy was eligible for registration, but when they tried to get the papers, they found the breeder has lied to them.

With registration, you get a nice puppy packet, with many coupons and a really nice dog tag. We opted for the lifetime lost and found option and for an additional $15.00 had his microchip number listed with them. Many breeders have been suspended from the AKC, and alternative registries are popping up that in my opinion are worthless, so I would not register my dogs with the alternative registries, I can find no reasons to support them.

Remember the AKC is the only registry that does routine unannounced inspections. With state laws becoming stricter, they can get rid of some of the poor breeders, and puppy millers, but it takes money to do those inspections.

Buster is a real cutiepie. You never know, he might just decide to quit growing. I have had pups that grew of really fast and then quit growing early.

Irregardless he is simply adorable. I love the rich coloring.

About registering - since you are not showing or breeding, it is entirely up to you. Registering will give you a pretty piece of paper to frame and hang on the wall.

Oh, what a handsome lil guy he is! He looks like an absolute sweetheart, and nice and healthy to boot. They do grow in spurts, so you never know if he's going to slow down now or keep on gaining. Be glad he's at size now that makes him less fragile, and less to worry about.

I also didn't send in Tiki's AKC registration, though I think you have a year. If you aren't breeding him, then the only other reason to send reg. is to help support AKC.

My pup is 4 months old also and weighs 6 lbs., I was told I has getting a Miniature - but we do love him - Does anyone know if they weigh that much at 4 months how much they will weigh full grown - I am a 1st time dog owner and just curious?

We registered Layla even tho she is just a pet.... not sure why... lol.... i think i was all caught up in the new puppy.... and i paid for a purebred... so i guess a part of me wanted the proof??? if i knew then what i know now.. i probably wouldn't have done it.. but it did come with an ID tag which is another way to bring her back home god forbid i loose her.

do you have his 12 week weight? the "general" rule is to double that... but i'd say he'll be done growing soon...

Just as a side note, you've seen those lists of the top 10 dogs in the United States? Well, they are based on registration with the AKC, Yorkies have been number two for the past few years, and maybe if more people registered them they would be NUMBER ONE!

I agree. Even though most of anything I breed, sell or place goes on limited reg...I always ask that the new owner reg their pups/dogs with the AKC. It helps to fund inspection's.

He is probably going to be a little over seven pounds. A good breed embassador. I would enhance his breed by working his ears up a little ( no really important) But he is handsome, and looks like he is eating everything you giving him. He must just be a future chobby buddy

By the way, registering the breed has its perks. Also, register him on the eukeniba, and royal canin sites. after a couple of weeks, you will know what I mean
