| poop-pee---atron Hi everyone .........New to the forum...just got a 2 month old yorkie puppy..i know puppies are puppies but this puppy is peeing all over our barefloor and sometimes on the carpet.....When we got him few days ago he was all sleepy eyed like a baby which he still is but now he is very active and developing quite fast. Sometimes he pees on these pads we have but other times he pees where hes comfortable. Also he poops where its comfortable and often on our carpet...Mostly the poop thing is annoying....we were told no to walk him outside untill the winter season end and hes too young to be walked..... How do i get him to poop and pee (mainly poop , but pee is an issue as well) all on the pads instead of wherever...please share your used tactics......thanks so much guys |

| Just a few suggestions. Get a crate or an ex-pen. Pee pads are a must. They're available in disposable or washable. Your baby always needs to put in the crate/pen when you can't watch him like a hawk. I didn't trust my boys away from my side until they were past 1 yr. old. My girls are 10 and 11 yrs. old and I still put them in ex-pens when I leave. My Pommie is always in an ex-pen when I'm gone for his own safety. He tends to destroy the house in anxiety. You also need to get some sort of enzyme cleaner such as Nature's Miracle so clean up the potty/poo so that your baby doesn't go back to the same place. Remember he is very, very young and it takes awhile. Just lately there was a thread about the time it take to train. The majority of posters said that it took months. The general run is that the puppy can hold its pee one hour for every month he/she is old. I set a kitchen alarm during the night so that I would get up and take my babies out. Good luck with training. ~Joanne~

| You'll find lots of posts in the training section of this site - very informative! Also, I got the book "Houstraining for Dummies"- found it very helpful. Although i didn't crate train - I used the ideas from the book to create my own version. First and foremost - block off the family room and lay down blankets (so you can wash them to remove the smell after accidents). Then watch the puppy, play with the puppy and then correct the puppy when it starts to go. If you have to turn away to do chores, watch tv, brush teeth - any distractions - then put the pup in a crate. Good luck and don't give up - my Bailey was housetrained at 4 mos and reliable at 6 months.

| Thanks guys for the replies.... Well , i already use disposable pads like you guys recomend. But he seems to go into other rooms and pee there instead or mostly poop on the carpets.... also i think he later when needing to poop again starts sniffing the carpet area or floor area.. What i did what completely wipe and clean with scented fragrance the floor area where he pooped before and cleaned the carpet as well , but he just end up find other areas on the carpet.. Im gonna check into the training section and some book like you guys recomended...thanks so much |

| He should not have free run of the house until he is housebroken. These guys are NOT easy to housebreak and you only get one shot! I live outside of Chicago and my dog has been going outside since he was 8 weeks old. There is a lot of good advise on the training forum. |

Thor's Human Donating Member | Also, make sure you get a cleaner that specifically says it removes pet odors -- a scented fragrence might be enough for a human nose, but their noses are much more powerful. Good luck! We're all pulling for you. |

| May I suggest the soft sided x-pen for the puppies.... We have one that was purchased at Petsmart. It is worth the money.

| keep him contained! no free run of the house! give him a small space unless you can watch him like a hawk or else he WILL continue to poop and pee all over the house. and personally, i think he'll be totally fine outside. jackson is perfectly content outside, he's about 12 weeks, even in the cold, as long as it's not too long. and i walk him on his leash. crate training is the way to go... or putting them in some kind of an ex-pen. where do you leave him when you are not at home?

| My vet told us not to take Cooper out till his shots. Just keep watching him and put him on the pads and reward him when he does |

YT 1000 Club Member | Everyone here is right. If you don't get a good cleaner like suggested and keep him blocked off of any rooms with carpet when your not watching.....your house will start to smell and you'll have to rip up the carpet. Trust me. I will never have carpet in my house again as long as I have a yorkie. I love the breed so much I'll just never have carpet. Plus we've decided hard woods and tile are just healthier anyway (no harbouring of dust mites and years of crud no matter how much you shampoo). Also when you walk the dog, use a harness and not a collar for the leash. These little ones can have some damage done to their wind pipes and such from pulling the least little bit. Enjoy your puppy they really are such sweet little ones. |

| Here is what you will face if you don't work on it now! LOL I have 2 yorkies. One is 5 the other 3. I did not follow training as anyone told me. My female came to me trained and now she is now. WHen hubby and I both worked it was easy. Crate during the day, take out several times at night. Very few mistakes. Hubby is home now retired. He barely takes them out on schedule. My living room which has new flooring which is laminent. Its coming up now from all the pee. They use the pee pads and the carpet and the floor and have destroyed the couch skirt. House smells and I cant control it. I have finally started to get some participation from hubby and we are getting things under control but I had to let it happen like this to get the help. We are going to remodel the living room but I wont let that happen until we have dog/hubby cooperation. |
