| Pet Names - what's your choice? Hi, everyone I was talking to a friend recently about how we name our pets, and we recognised that there seems to be a clear divide between 'human' names and 'thing' names. As an example, I seem to have gone through two distinct phases. I started with 'things': Friday, Domino, Humbug, Willow, Bramble and Toff. More recently, I've had 'human' names: Beth, Fritz and Lucy. Anyone else wonder why this is? Anyone got a preference / rationale for our choice of names?

| Most of my pets have had human names....... there were a few that didn't, but even the horses we had when I was growing up had "call names" that were human. I can't think of a name that isn't human that would suit Shelby or Seymour....

| I always prefer to name pets something that I would never name a human. Such as Rascal and Shimmer But I love all dogs regardless of their name! |

| I guess I lean mostly to human names. My first dog was a beagle named "Mike". Then we have had Bouncer, Roughy & Ready (sibling hounds), Sam, Trish, Camille, Heidi, Obie, Bruiser, Candy, Barney, and now we have a Mickey, Katy Lou, and a Sophie Mae. |

| Hmm... Current pets: Penny (Yorkie) Timothy (Siamese cat) Benjamin (cat) Past pets: Kelly (golden retriever) Jamie (cat) Pepper (cat) Ib (hamster) Kaiakua (fish) Kupo, Stitch, MaeMae, Noe, Whiskers, Stubb, Pippin, Merry, Ostrich, and Pudge (rats) Ping (mouse) Sydney, Chico, Rocky, Kiwi (birds) Dolly (salamander) ... I don't really have any sort of theme. It seems like things that tend to live longer, I give human names, while things that live less than ten years I get more creative with.

| I had a Shih tzu, Casey, and my Yorkie is Lexi. For Lexi, I was thinking of all kinds of names, and I like clever or somewhat unusual - non-people names. I can only think that for me, I probably ended up with a people name because I knew she would be such a member of our family - like the other people in our family. Current guinea pigs: Chloe Cleo (short for Cleopatra, came from the rescue with that name) Claire (came from the rescue with the name "Skunky", but I had to change it!) Milkshake just passed a week or two ago. She was adopted, already named. Abby passed a year and a half ago. She was an Abyssinian guinea pig, hence her name! Past guinea pigs: Piglet (Piggy) Wiglet (Wiggy) Ziggy Oreo Sirena and too many others I can't remember now! Current bird: Kiwi Past birds: Jellybean Tweety |
