| Is there any way to tell if my lil girl had sex? She just came in her second heat ( I am guessing because she is almost 1) well she was outside today and I ran in the house to check on some food I was making and I came back out (maybe 5-8 mins later) and there were 2 other dogs in the yard with her ( I dont know if they were girls or boys, they ran off as soon as I came out) So I guess i am asking what would it look like if she did? She is a little swollen and has a bloody discharge (but I thought it was because the heat?) is there any way to know if she is pregnant? PS I did not know she was in heat until now. I dont really check for that because we did not plan to breed her. Thanks so much |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Hi, and welcome to YorkieTalk, I've never had a little girl, but from what I recall reading that sounds like she's in heat, and you will have every unneutered male dog in a 10 mile radius going wild. Someone else can tell you how long the act takes, I saw it once, and the dogs were tied together for what seemed like a long time. I don't know if they could complete the act in five minutes, but I've heard they're pretty sneaky. She's still a little young to safely get pregnant, and if your not planning on breeding her, it might be wise to get her fixed. I don't think there is much of a way to tell if she's pregnant until later, and they can take x-rays. I'm not a breeder, and maybe they could switch this thread to the breeder's forum. Best of luck!

| How big were the dogs in your yard? How big is your Yorkie? You need to call your vet and explain what happened and see how soon they can tell if she is pregnant. They may recommend spaying her to be safe because if she were impregnated by a larger dog, it could kill her. I suspect this was her first heat. She is too young to be bred. I agree with Nancy. I think you should post this in the Breeder's section to get advice from experts. |

| Without sounding mean or harsh, if your dog is in heat you need to keep an eye out when you have them outside!!!! This is exactly why they say spay/neuter your dogs! I just hope your poor baby didn't get pursued by a larger dog, since that would make it very difficult for her to have the babies. I would just get a diaper and make sure if your dog is around intack males she has that on, or just watch watch watch your dog....

| If your dog is in heat? There are 3 stages of heat, and if she's bleeding, then she wouldn't want a male, and if they did get to her, most likely she wouldn't be pregnant. It's when she's done bleeding(the 2nd week) that she would be more apt to let them to her. 1 and going in to heat twice? How big is she? I don't think most little dogs have been in to heat twice by the time they're a year. Most of these small dogs don't even come in to heat the first time until 7-8 mos, and some later than that. I would get her in to the heat, and if you're not going to use her to breed, please get her spayed. |

I do want to let her have puppies one day but not now and I dont plan to breed her for the purpose of selling her puppys. and now that I know she is in heat she will not be going out without me lol I dont usually lat her out with out me anyway cause she seems to have a big bark that I am afraid that she cant back up lol there are only about 3 lil dogs in this neighborhood all the rest are over 50 pounds. |

| A 3 lb dog is way too small to risk breeding IMO |

| It is very dangerous, if not deadly, for a 3 lb yorkie to have puppies. Before I had Yorkies I never knew that, I had no reason to know. Not trying to scare you, but you should just be informed of that since you had mentioned you would like her to have puppies some day . Typically, when dogs breed, they will be tied together for a little while. That does not mean that your dog did not tie, because she could have tied for a short time, but it is good that you did not find her stuck to another dog. Is there anyway you could find out who's dogs those were? You could find out if they were male or female that way. My Lilly just had her 2nd heat and sometimes it's hard to notice with those little dogs and all that hair Especially if they are not acting any different or cleaning themselves a lot.

| You may want to talk to your vet about spaying her now. I doubt she is pregnant but it would be extremely dangerous for a dog her size to have pups anyway. Your vet should be able to give you some direction. It is healthier in the long run to get them spayed early. If you are sure she isn't pregnant, it would be safer to wait and spay her after her heat. If there is any question about those dogs having got to her, I think it would be a good idea to have her tested for STDs...

| to all the replies about her weight. If you love this little girl, get her spayed. My little one is going on 7 mos and right around 2 lbs, and I look at her and think how could anyone in their right minds ever even think of doing that to a dog(breeding at such a small size). and the sad thing, is there are a lot of (not too bright) people in this world! |

| i read everyone's reply, and the part that bothered me the most of the poster, was when she said she wanted to "breed the puppies to sell them." i think that is just terrible. At least do it for the love of the breed.

She didn't say that, she said "I do want to let her have puppies one day but not now and I dont plan to breed her for the purpose of selling her puppys." Here we go again....
