| Yorkie Holiday Health Reminder I've noticed that we have a lot of brand new puppy mommies and daddies out there right now. I would like to remind you of a couple of things you might not think of during this time of year. I know the first one from experience, so be careful! 1.)Visiting with your yorkie. Be careful if you are in any house where they may have rat bait put out. Even if your puppy just gets hold of a dead rat, the amount of poison could kill him or her. 2.)Visitors in your house. Remind them to be careful about medication. Even one high blood pressure pill dropped on the floor can be deadly. 3.) Wires for decorations. While most of us have our homes puppyproofed, we might forget to be careful about holiday decoration extension cords and cords for new electronics. 4.)Little plastic ties for packages and price tags. My yorkies are like vacuums! These can be very dangerous and cause bowel obstructions. 5.)Food gifts. Friends who don't have pets wouldn't think twice about wrapping up homemade food gifts and putting them under your tree. So always ask if something is a food item. I remember one year I was given some gourmet chocolate spoons and Gizmo had the package open before I even realized it. Feel free to add your own reminders. Maybe we can help some of our new yorkie mommies and daddies avoid some of our mistakes. Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah and Happy Kwanza!

| Great post!! I would like to add something about visitors- people that don't own yorkies think it's soo cute to see them beg, and often slip them something from the table. This can be extremely costly and often deadly due to the sensitive nature of the yorkie and their system. The smallest amout of fat can cause pancreatitis, not to mention nutmeg causing seizures, garlic being toxic, etc.

| I'd also like to add how toxic pointsettas are. Although beautiful, they are toxic to our little ones and should be kept high up so your doggie can't get to them! |

| I just remembered a couple of more... -Silica gel packs - these come in all sorts of electronics, so be careful. They are used to keep moisture out of the product. My son had one in his Guitar Hero box last year. While they probably won't kill a yorkie, they can cause some serious gastrointestinal issues, and as well all know, a little diarrhea can be fatal for the tiny ones. -doors - with everyone coming and going in and out..if you have a potential runner, you might consider an xpen around the front door. While it might be inconvenient, it could prevent tragedy. Be especially careful if people set off firecrackers around you. This freaks most of our littles out!

| What about Turkey guys? I just know my In-Laws will be wanting to feed some to my dogs! I'm going there christmas eve for about 5 days and i'm going to have to have eyes in the back of my head! what with food scraps being thrown out into the yard and doors being left open..Pixie is also in danger of being stepped on as the MIL does tend to bound around the house totally oblivious of anything in her path! Thank goodness I have my portable puppy pen!

I would just tell the inlaws that Pixie is extremely sensitive and you don't want to have to ruin the holiday by taking her to the ER vet. For those who want to share the holiday meal with their babies, maybe get a can of high quality dog food and allow them to have a bit of that as a special treat. Just a thought!
