| OMG, She wont eat! What do I do? hey there guys! Im having some trouble getting keely to eat. She isnt sick. She is just STUBBORN! We switched her to welnness about a month ago now, At first we were mixing in about A teaspoon full of wet food with a 1/4 of a cup of dry in the morning and again supper time. But she would lick the wet stuff off the dry and just eat that and that amount of food was obviously not enough for her. And we cannot afford to just feed her the wet stuff. So we swicthed to just dry. And she would eat about 3/4 of a cup a day at first. But recently she wont eat it. My mom started making a game of it and throw it across the floor one peice at a time and she woukld eat it all. But im not spending the rest of her life doing that. And in the past few days she is only eating about 1/4 cup or less. What can i do to get her to eat from her bowl? Is there ANYTHING i can do? ARGh. people keep telling me that Yorkies are picky eaters but i never thought they were this darn bad!!!!! BTW- Another food change is out of the question. She does like the food. |

| First of all ... Calm down lol ... you're being a good Mom but your dog is fine She'll eat when she's hungry But changing your dog's food a lot isn't good for her either so be careful with that if you have a puppy ... Remember ... They have Tiny stomachs They get full very fast If you wanna know the size of her stomach it's about the size of the top of her skull so give her more than you know she'll eat and give her a half hour or so to eat it if she turns her nose up there's always the next time

| If canned is out of the question and the food can't be changed and she licks whatever is added off, then I guess you only have one choice. That is leave it down (or feed her at scheduled times) and she'll eat when she is hungry because dogs won't let themselves starve. The proble I have with this method is that they may not starve but some will eat just enough to stay alive. Still others may be put in a dangerous health situation because of hypoglycemic risk. I just don't think this is the right method to use. Are you sure that 1/4 cup isn't enough for her though? Is she losing weight? I wouldn't be too sure that she likes the food. It sounds like she is just tolerating it because if she liked it, she would be eating more...

| Thanks. She does like the food. IF she didnt, she wouldnt eat it when my mom threw it across the floor, (We tried it with cesar food and she wouldnt even touch it when it was thrown) It seems to me shes just bored with it. Maybe Kong feeding her would work?? |

| Somebody suggested Not puttting any food down for her for a day or so and then Putting some down the next day to get her back on shedual? It sounds cruel to me, what do you think? |

Some are just social eaters also and want company. I used to throw it for Ellie but she would eat on her own also. She didn't mind the food but I don't think she loved it either.

| I'm not really sure why it wouldn't be good for her to switch as long as it is done the right way? Ellie gets homecooked and her ingredients are changed often. Some dogs may be sensitive if they have been on kibble for awhile though and maybe that's the concern. If you've tried several and this is her favorite, I think it would be a waste of time and money to keep switching. I guess we all have our own definitions of cruelty. I have pulled food for up to 30 hours but it was for a health issue, not picky eating. It doesn't sound like a method I would use.
