I heard over and over I could not handle having a puppy and being a student too but I love having my baby!!!!!,granted I got her over break but i cant wait for those late night study sessions and having my bailee asleep in my lap! It will make it ten times better having her there with me! Do all you other college students think you made the right choice getting your baby at this time?

| I just graduated nursing school on Wednesday. I got Suri a few days before the 4th semester started and it was great...I took her to school in my jacket, took her to the coffee house when we had study groups, took her to the movies and pretty much everywhere I went. I made sure to give her breaks when she was getting too tired and I made sure she had all her shots. I love having Suri and as long as you give her the attention she needs I say go for it. Just make sure that it will not affect your school oraffect the pup in a negative way.

| That's what i want to do! I'm almost done with my bachelor's but I'm really hoping to get a yorkie soon. I agree with KimberlySRN about giving your baby attention and to make sure you get your work done. I watch my roommate with her pom and it's the cutest thing. She eats dinner and he's with her, she does homework and he is either nearby or sleeping on her lap. When she's home he's her constant companion. But, my only criticism about this is he only gets attention when she's home, which is rare. She works A LOT and she goes to school. I'm the one who takes him out to pee or for a walk because I feel bad for him. He's home alone most days for more than 12 hours. (by alone I mean without his primary care giver) I do think it's possible to have your baby and go to school. Just make sure they don't get bored. My roommate's pom gets bored sometimes and he's started chewing the paint off the door. I try to take him out mid-day just so he can get some excercise and get some fresh air.

| I'm a college student and have 2. One 7 month old and one adult. Sometimes studying takes over and I don't get to spend as much time as I want with them, but it works out in the end..

| I'm graduating next year and I have two Yorkies. To be honest, my grades have suffered because of them (don't tell my parents! ). It is much harder to study when they're around because Franklin is constantly getting into trouble so I have to watch him like a hawk. They also take up a lot more time. We go on walks every day and we go to the dog park when we can so I have less time overall. When I leave to go study elsewhere, I feel guilty for leaving them home alone. That being said, I wouldn't trade them for the world! I think anyone that says having dogs wasn't more responsibility and made their life harder would be lying. However, to me, it doesn't matter because they are completely and totally worth it. In all practicality, if I could have done it again, I would have waited. BUT in reality, I love them so incredibly much and they have brought me so much joy and I feel so blessed that they are in my life.

| (Kiki's rant to all those students out there contemplating getting a yorkie!) I go to school full-time, and work full-time, and take care of my yorkie full-time. Sound easy? It ain't! Though it can be done, the question is... is it fair to your yorkie? I keep mine over at my parents when I'm at school/work so he can play with my parents dog. Would I have to keep him home alone all day by himself, I would have felt horrible and not have gotten a yorkie. It wouldn't have been fair to him. If you're just lonely and need a friend, I'd invest in a fish. If you have the time, and patience, to TRULY take care of a little guy, then by all means, do it. If you can't, then do the dogs out there a favor and don't adopt them. I'm sorry to sound blunt, but this hits close to home. Kingston's previous owner kept him locked in the pantry from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day while she went to work. I can't tell you how upset it makes me to think of how lonely he must of been and how I see how her behavior affected him on a day to day basis. I have to "re-train" him on multiple things... for instance, he thinks it's acceptable to pee on himself (which is against dog's natures) because she would lock him inside without a place to go to the bathroom. She was "lonely" and thought she needed a buddy to help her make the transition. To me, that's selfishness, not love. Only you can answer this question honestly. Can YOU afford the time to take care of a dog while going to school? If you can't, then you should wait until you graduate... keep it as a "graduation present" for yourself Best of luck in your decision, A 21 year old college student

| I'm a college student and I got my Sasha right before my first year winter semester started. It was rather difficult at first because I knew I needed to focus on my studies, but at the same time I wanted to focus on Sasha. Plus, when I started to potty train her, it would get frustrating at times having to stop what I'm doing every half hr/hr to take her out, but it did get better as time went on. Now since she's 1 year old, she's a lot more relaxed than when she was younger. You can do it! |

| The biggest problem with getting a dog while you're still in college is that your life is going to change dramatically when you graduate and there is no way to predict if a dog is going to work long term. For example, you may end up working in a city where pet friendly apartments are impossible to find or you might take a job with a long commute or that requires traveling. Getting a dog is a huge commitment of time and money for hopefully fifteen years. That's a pretty big commitment for a twenty year old to make. |

| I think you can do it from what you have told us Since your boyfriend is helping while you are at class, I don’t see a problem. I have been out of college and grad school for a long time, but I could have taken care of a dog back then, assuming that it was not an issue for the roommates (and it might have been, since yorkies tend to bark a lot under the right circumstances, but you would have checked this out or maybe you live on your own). You can effectively work with one on your lap, that’s for sure - I do it all the time. It is easier when they are a little older though, and more interested in being lap dogs and not as interested in playing all the time. I think small dogs are accepted all over the place now, from what I've seen (yorkies in carriers in grocery stores and other shops). Most apartments will take small dogs now as well, so I dont think it will be too much of a logistical issue when you graduate and relocate. You can study and play fetch at the same time, its called Multi-tasking and you can add it to your resume! Good Luck! |

Like I said, I love my dogs and would never trade them but in retrospect it might have been a better idea for me to wait until after I graduated. I knew getting a dog the responsibility of owning a dog and I also knew what lay ahead of me career wise. I knew I would be able to keep my dogs no matter what. I did not know that Franklin would get sick and cost me $1600, money that I didn't really have. I did not know that my schoolwork would suffer. I mean granted, I do what I need to now but it was so tough at first. I did not know that he would tear a whole in my roommate's $1200 couch, a couch which I will most likely have to replace. Getting a dog is a HUGE, huge responsibility, one that I underestimated. I'm sure that if I underestimated it, there are many others that have/will also. My decision to get a dog wasn't on a whim, either. I have wanted a dog for years and seriously considered one for a whole year before we actually got one. You just never really know what you're getting in to until you have one.

| I'm not in school right now, but I was working a full time job plus taking 5 or more classes a semester, married (which is like 10 full time jobs lol), and still managed to have time for my babies.
