| Wearing sweaters... Now that the cold weather (and snow!) is here, I have a question about wearing sweaters. I used to have a shih-tzu, and I often kept her on the longer side. I'd bring her to the groomer every two weeks for a bath, light trim, and to be brushed. With the longer coat, she was obviously more susceptible to matting. I brilliantly thought that by putting a sweater on her, it would "keep the hair in place." Okay - that was a big mistake! It made her one big mat. The groomer had to work on her for two days, giving an oatmeal bath, because she was afraid of stressing out poor Casey. I want to make sure Lexi is warm, but I am concerned about matting. Do you find that wearing sweaters (sweatshirts, etc.) causes a problem? How long and when does your dog wear them? Only when going out? Around the house? Overnight? Lexi has pretty much worn dresses and the occasional t-shirt. The dresses don't cover as much and they're not as tight-fitting, so I haven't had any problems yet. I'd love to hear from others. Oh, and I'm still new to Yorkies, but I'd say she has a cottony coat, if that matters. Thank you! |

| I have a problem with anything I put on mine, dresses even. The other day, I washed them all up and put fabric softener in the wash and then put another sheet in the dryer, when I took her dress off after that, she wasn't matted at all. I only use 1/2 a bounce sheet, but, I do that on everything I wash, works just as good and saves money.. |

| first i wanted to say, your baby is beautiful i have a problem with miss buffey matting...she is very soft coated and would matt horribly after wearing anything for an hour...i have her in a puppy cut now and that really helps! and she looks adorable but if you do not want to cut your babys hair, maybe look for a satin undershirt or satin lined dresses...i think that might help a little bit?

| I only put their sweaters on when we are going out in the cold weather. I try to keep a comb in my purse for them so that when I remove their sweater when I get to their destination ,I give them a quick combing.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Wearing satin/silk lined clothing or undershirt will help with the matting problem. But wearing anything for hours or over night will make them have the tendency to get hair mats. Mine usually wear clothes or coats just when we are going out. Ruby will wear a sweater in the house, on our coldest days. And when she does, I just make sure she is brushed/combed out a couple of times a day.

| Hi Robbye, I don't know about sweaters, but I keep my 2 youngest in jammies all day and all night during the cold months. I do brush all of them in the morning and evening before they go to bed. It seems to help keep the tangles and matted hair to a minimum. Hugs, Gina

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | Jaxon gets some matting under his forearms, but I just try to brush him at least every other day. He gets so cold without clothes! The Fabric Softner & Bounce sheets sounds like it would help & I do use those too, so maybe that is why he doesn't get so matted, Hugs-Kay & Jaxon

| Stormy's hair isn't super long yet but it is getting longer, she is a silky coat though. She wears sweaters, I don't get them TOO tight though, and I haven't had any matting problems. We usually only wear the sweater while we go out and if we are going somewhere like someone's house, I take it off once we get there. |
