| Male vs. Female...please advise on pros and cons Okay, I think I've finally convinced DH that we need to bring home another yorkie so that Cassi can have a playmate/companion. She's almost 1 yrs old (on Dec 24th), has been spayed, and weighs a little over 4 lbs. Now here's my dilemna...I don't know if I should get a female or male for my next furbaby. Any input you can provide on the pros and cons of a female vs. male would be really appreciated.

| Truthfully, I don't think it matters. I think it's more dependent on the individual dog. Personally, I'm partial to boys, but if I found a little girl out there that was perfect for me, I'd snatch her up. I would just start your search with an open mind and wait for the perfect pup, boy or girl.

| if you have a female already... personally, i would recommend a male. females & females fight a lot more, in general, as to males & males (but not as much as females, in my experiences) males & females generally get along well though. i've never had a female yorkie but i've had 4 other female dogs in my lifetime and my first male yorkie i have now. i can say my male yorkie is way more lovey & needy of me than the females. he seems easier to train and more willing to listen. he's not AS stubborn and not as moody as my females have been. but i recommend a male! the boys are usually mamas boys (but mine likes men too) and girls seem to be more attached to men. you always get the odd one where a female acts the same as a male would and vice verse. there's always exceptions and such.

Thanks for the recommendation!!! I think I'm leaning towards getting a male. I just wanted to get some additional info, before I make any final decisions . BTW, do you know if a male would be able to go on a pee pad tray especially since they raise their leg when they pee??

| Mine are both males and get along very well. They are also both pad trained, and neither lifts their leg up in the house, they kind of do a tripod squat when they pee. Good luck on whatever you decide

| Ranger has NEVER EVER lifted his leg, but I got him neutered at 6 months on the nose. Ryder has only lifted his leg twice that I have seen, but he squats to pee. Ranger goes outside, but Ry uses the potty pad cuz it's too cold for him outside!!! Oh yeah and he wasn't neutered till 14 months old... You know me- I say get a boy!!!!

good to know that a male will also squat on a pee pad. Well this time around...I'm most likely going to get a boy. Prior to having Cassi, I had two male cats and they very attached to me. They were extremely affectionate and followed me everywhere. Although Cassi has a sweet temperament, she likes to go off on her own sometimes (and occassionally she wants to cuddle). I definitely want a little furbaby that wants to cuddle more.

| Captain Jack squats to potty, he was neutered at about 6 months. Roscoe occasionally lifts his leg, but only outside. He was neutered at 10 months. But both of my boys are really attached to me. When we watch television the boys lay on the couch with me and our female chihuahua sits with my husband! The only problem with having both boys so attached to me is that they are so jealous of each other! Cap is about 5lbs and Roscoe is about 50lbs(he's the springer spaniel) If either one of them is near me the other one has to be there too! It is so funny to watch them argue over the prime spot closest to me on the couch...Cap doesn't give up just because he's smaller! A boy is my vote!

| I have three girls and they have NEVER had got in to a fight, when I got Melody the first time Phoebe was kind of jealous but now, I know that was normal, and she is not anymore, they love each other very much, and they are very loving towards mommy and daddy PS. I think having the pair will be cool, I also have a friend that have a boy and a girl, and her girl don't like the boy at all, I think it depends of the dog. Hubby and I just prefer girls, but I have meet many cute boys too

| We're partial to girls here. All of mine(except the little one) have been spayed/neutered. We have 5 girls and 1 boy, and never had any fights between any of them. The thing I have been forutnate with, is my boy was neutered before he ever started lifting his leg. My sons yorkie was neutered at 5 1/2 mos but, lifts his leg everywhere except on the pee pad and is over a year old. I've never had any of my spayed females fight. I think they mostly do that if they haven't been spayed. I would say go with a girl |
