| Does your yorkie roam the house? I have a 1 yr old yorkie. We have been limiting "her space" since we got her to the kitchen and living room (where we always are) with baby gates even when we are home. I would like to have her be able to go all over the house but she wont stay in the same room as us and is always getting into things in those rooms. We pick up everything in the rooms but she still manages to get into something. Does anyone have any suggestions? I hate to think my house with have baby gates up permanently!!!! |

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | This sounds exactly like our house....we have just recently let our girls roam the back of house while we are home but we do it for short periods of time, like an hour and then shut the gates...we have been making it longer and longer and they seem to be doing better and better...at first they were always finding something, under beds or in baskets but the more they roam the less they destroy...we still have the gates up so that we have some control over what is going on, but like you we want to get rid of the gates evenutally....and I think with time the girls will get better about it!! I would start with a few minutes and then call her back...that way she learns that when you call her, she needs to come and find you!! This worked for us, maybe it will for you...good luck!!

| Yes, Sully roams the whole house and does great! When he was housebroken enough to be let out of the crate, we baby-gated him into the kitchen whenever we left home. When he proved to have no accidents, he won his freedom and has done AWESOME. But we were very very very strict when we crate trained him. But it worked, woohoo!

| They roam the house like "they" own it! We don't have any problems.

| Our kids do not roam the whole house we have areas that we have gated off. I don't like them going upstairs alone or in the basement.. Other than that they can pretty much go where they please.. |

| "Roam the house"? LOL They own the house! They are not too bad about getting into things and making messes. When I sit in here at the computer they will find paper, popsicle sticks, things like that to bring in here and tear up. I allow it because it is in one area. Besides, they have sooo much fun tearing things up. LOL Sylvia |

| My yorkies roam the house and do great. Even though they are free to roam they always end up following me from room to room. They are my shadows

| We let Luig roam the house while we are home. But then, while we are gone, we have him gated off in the kitchen!!!!!!!!! If we don't gate him, we will come to some kind of mess!!!!!

| Total freedom My boys have always had access to the entire house. Benni is and has been 100% potty trained since I got him (with one short relapse after a hospitalization), but Garett is totally pee pad trained. But the last few weeks he has started occasionally lifting his leg and actually peeing when I take the boys for a walk and tonight for the first time ever he actually did his poop outside. You would have thought I won the lottery the way I was gushing at him. LOL After Benni's OD on meds (my DD left out) and his hospitalization, my whole apartment is entirely puppy proofed, between the OD situation and the spill a whole ink pen on my sand colored carpet, it was an absolute necessity to totally "baby/puppy" proof my apt. Bathroom door is always closed, nothing left on the floor, toys at easy access (laundry basket), cabinets and closets always closed fully. |

| I have to agree with you all they let me live with them. My three pretty much are were ever I go, I have 6 eyes watching me potty. lol If they aren't in the room I am sure they are up to something, usually if I call whoever is missing will come. Polly is missing as I type, she is in the bedroom playing with toys so Rudy doesn't take them and jump on the bed. Never a dull moment with three yorkies.
