| Is it normal for a puppy to change his patterns after... Getting an x-pen to run around in? I've had Gucci for over a month now, and normally he stays in my room with me all day and when I leave the room he accompanies me IN MY ARMS to wherever I go, when I am occupied he is in his vinyl carrier wherever I may be so he is not alone... Anyhow point being he hasn't had a whole lot of free space to run in all day just a few hours at a time about 4 times a day the rest of the time he is resting in his Snuggle Sack with me or in his carrier with his babies. I have been very careful not to let him run around on his own in the house or anything like that, we have a lot of people that come in and out plus I have other dogs, so Keeping him in one room and off the ground everywhere else is Priority until his shots are completed (which will be in about 13 days).. So with that being said... I went shopping for an X-pen for him 2 days ago since I felt he needed some more time and room to PLAY and be a Puppy rather than having intervals of limited time with me and my hubby, plus he needs to get used to being able to be more independant and go potty on his pee pads without my supervision WHICH HE HAS BEEN DOING PERFECT WITH BY THE WAY!!... I found a good sized X-pen for him and purchased it. I set it up in the TV room or in my room wherever I go he goes.. lol , it's always in a disinfected area and I put his large comforter underneath it with a puppy pad, food and water bowl, his bed with his Snuggle Sack and some toys. I let him run wild he loved it!! so now he is in there when he is not with me (as opposed to his carrier) The first day he was ON ONE... Up all day and all night running wild.. the 2nd day he was still having a little trouble napping in there as there are distractions but he snuck in a midday nap.. Now today.. he has napped a few times .. Mostly after I take him out for playtime, I put him back after an hour or so (we do this many times a day ) anyhow I put him back he dillies around for a bit then kinda half snoozes.. he just seems very relaxed and not so wild.. He is eating fine, drinking fine, barking and acting whacko if I take him out he only acts calm in the X-pen and sleeps more than the other days... Is he just wearing himself out more with such a large space to run and play when he has been used to napping instead? He is acting fine just relaxing more Not even sleeping just laying in bed biting on his Hedgehog Humpty, I just want to make sure this is most likely what it is... thanks I know it was a lot to read I apologize for that!! | hmm, i'm not sure i can give you an actual answer other than what you said... maybe he is so used to being in your arms, etc and when he got so much "free" space, he doesn't know what to do with himself? has he ever been in a crate? i know with jackson, i give him his time to run around and play in a confined area and let his energy out, but he gets put in his crate if he hasn't pottied yet or if he's just tired. he gets his naps in in his crate and loves it, it's sort of his safe place. maybe gradually give him more freedom... does he sleep in the x-pen at night? and i'm actually purchasing an x-pen in a few days for jackson so that can be where he has his playtime rather than in my room.

I just wanted to make sure all his vaccinations were done before he was allowed free reign .. now with the x-pen he has a lot of room.. it is an 8 panel octagon shape and that is pretty big for a 3lb yorkie lol so I think maybe it's what you said .. he doesn't even know what to do with himself And actually no, he doesn't sleep in it, he sleeps in his carrier ( I am afraid he'll fall off the bed at night ) next to me on the side of my bed. YT Addict | How old is Gucci?....when I first got Bryan at 11 weeks he would play and take little naps all day long.....if he's still young I think it very normal for him to take those little naps.....Enjoy it now.... because when he gets older it will stop

He is 14 weeks, I figured it was normal I just wanted to consult other people who are familiar with Yorkies as I am the only person I know in Real Life with a Yorkie lol. I think he is just getting used to roaming and having his own free space so now he is getting himself tired out from being able to do what he wants rather than be held or confined to smaller spaces. I'd rather be safe and ask though | |
