| Doggie Daycare question... I was just wondering from people who have their dogs in doggie day care how they like it? Do you dogs pick up bad habits there? I am considering taking Teddi once a week to a doggie day care so she could play with other dogs and to give my big dog a break once a week. I went and looked at the place and the dogs look like they are having so much fun. They only take dogs 25 lbs and less. They said if dogs are too agressive they tell the people not to bring them back. I've stopped by twice now and it both times there were 3 workers and one was throwing balls and toys for the dogs and the others were holding dogs. They don't put out pee pads...they have the artificial grass square box thing for them to pee on. I think that will be OK because Teddi goes on pads and outside so she should pick up on that. I would just love to hear what those of you who have dogs in doggie day care think of it or if you have any negative feelings towards it.

I have mixed emotions on doggie day cares....I think it can be a great thing, but then I think it can be a bad thing. There is one doggie day care here that I looked at, and all their workers looked like they were young kids, and werent paying that much attention to the animals, so i was like hmm....would i really risk that? I do think it can be a great thing to do though! I would just make sure your dog is up to date on all vaccines, and that that is something they require there, as well as if animals are spayed/neuterd! but go for it, if it looks harmless, do it. I guess i'm jsut picky since i worked at a vets for 7+ years =)

| Layla goes to a sitters- not doggy day care but I think they are great- great socialization- a different setting for your dog. If you are comfortable with the business then I wouldn't hesitate. |

| Rory loves it! She attends daily while we are at work. That being said there are actually several doggie daycare options near where we live, and I would not just drop her off at any of them. The one where she goes is the only one in city to have real grass. She is a favorite which doesn't hurt things either. She really hasn't picked up any bad habits - if anything they taught her it was "okay" to potty outside. Before she began daycare she would only go on her pad. We would go for a long walk without her using the bathroom once and then the second we were back home she'd run to her pad and squat. Poor little thing. I also love knowing that she is having fun (can also watch on the webcams) while I'm at work.

| Hi, Ronda! Well, I have sent the girls on several occasions to a doggie daycare, which is called Yorkie Camp in Upland. They care for yorkies only. I actually sent them everyday for a week and the second day going, they couldn't wait to get in. They were very excited. The girls also spent a long weekend there while we went out of town. That was the longest I've been apart from them but I felt totally comfortable. Yorkie Camp is owned by a retired couple and they run it out of their home. They have a large detached room set up with beds, fireplace, and comfy spots for the yorkies, and an accessible yard. The girls didn't come home with any bad habits and I certainly hope they didn't pass any along. Good luck with your decision. Teddi is so precious!

Donating YT 11K Club Member | I guess it all depends on the daycare you take them to. Some are much better than others , where the worker actually care and pay attention. And some have webcams so you can check on them. I would do my research and ask for references maybe. The ones i see here, the dogs are having fun and they are always pampered. They also have cool couches for the dogs

| Ronda, I take my dogs to a sitter who has up to 10-12 dogs in her home on any given day. At first, especially when Milli was a puppy, I was really worried about how they'd do, especially with the larger dogs, but they did fine. It can take a few hours and a few visits for them to be comfortable with it and figure out their place among the other dogs, but somehow they just do! To be honest, I would be careful, keeping in mind Teddi's size-make sure you go along with her the first few times to introduce her to the other dogs to make sure you are both comfortable before you leave her for a whole day. I know she has enough personality to take on a St. Bernard but I would want to see first hand how they separate the smaller ones from the larger ones (even though there is a 25 lb. weight limit) and how they all get along. There is a big difference between 3 lb and 20 lb-but as long as they realize they're all in a "pack" together and the daycare staff won't tolerate any misbehavior, they will all do great together!

| I think it can be a good thing but I would really have to trust the workers first. Webcams would also help. For any dog of mine though, it most likely wouldn't happen because being up to date on shots is usually a requirement. That would be okay if titers are accepted or an altered schedule (not annual). I also would hesitate to give bordatella every 6-12 months. So, depending on how you feel about vaccines, it may or may not be a good idea... I also don't think that a dog 4 times Ellie's size should play rough with her and I'm sure that happens occasionally, so I'd want somebody watching constantly.

| Obi loves going to day care. I try to take him at least once a week, as he is very social and LOVES to play with other dogs. As soon as we pull into the parking lot he seems to know where we are and can't get out of the car fast enough! I did do some research on where I ended up taking him and the people there just love him. It's owned by a husband and wife and every time I drop him off it's the same people working, and they recognize him right away. They don't have any high school/teenagers working there, all the staff are full-time and trained to work with dogs. The other nice thing is they separate the little dogs from the big dogs, so I know he is being well cared for. They also post pictures on their website so every once in awhile I can see pictures of Obi playing with the other dogs. I would highly recommend finding a place you are comfortable with and taking your dog! |
