| New around here! Hi, I'm Brittany *waves* I'm new to here! I'm getting my first Yorkie this weekend, very excited. He's only 10 weeks. I've had many different animals throughout my life though... A Golden Retriever, Daisy and a German Shepard, Sadie who both have passed. A cocker spaniel/poodle mix, Carmen who is almost 4. Over at my dad's house, he still has the Jack Russell/Shih Tzu mix, Lily, plus two new cats. Among many others, but anyways... hey! Last edited by Britster; 12-07-2008 at 10:18 PM. |

| welcome to YT and congratulations on your new baby! i think a lot of people on this forum believe 8 weeks is pretty young for puppy to leave mom and siblings. (i believe so too) usually best if the puppy is 12 weeks old. (there are people here that has gotten their pups at 8 weeks of age as well, so you might be able to get some advice from them) good luck to you!

| i c. well, i think at that age, you have to teach your puppy about having soft mouth. because usually they learn to bite softly from their mommy and siblings. so you will have to work with your puppy to make sure she/he doesn't bite people to hard. other than that i don't really know what else they learn from their mom and siblings at that age. (i got my puppy when she was a little over 12 weeks) another thing to watch out for is hypoglycemia. it's a problem for some yorkies, especially when they are young. make sure you have nutri-cal on hand just in case. i didn't think i would need it when i got my puppy. i needed it, and i always keep it on hand now just in case.
