| Holistic Vet (two part question) Does anyone use a holistic vet? I was thinking of taking my girls in and actually made the appt, but when I found out it was $180 to get a comprehensive exam on ONE of my girls I cancelled. So what I want to know is is it worth the money going to a holistic vet versus a regular vet? Next question is actually about insurance: My poodle was diagnosed with gastritis would it be worth getting insurance now because 1. its preexisting so I know it won't be covered and 2. a gastritis diagnosis could really be a blanket preexisting condition for lots of things. I just don't want to waste my money on insurance just to fight over getting reimbursed due to the gastritis, and the ins. co linking other things to the gastritis, therefore not reimbursing me. |

| I use a holistic vet - but the vet is integrative, meaning she does bloodwork, vaccines, surgery, dental, ect. in addition to Chinese Traditional Medicine, Accupuncture and other holistic methods. Its not worth it if you need two vets - but if you just need the one vet, I am delighted with the care my furbutts get. The initial exam is usually the most expensive and then follow up is more comprable to a normal vet. The reason, besides their expertise that they charge more for the initial is that it a) usually takes the most time and b) holistic care involves pet guardian participation for it to work, so they want serious clients. Many holistic vets, after they know you will wave the initial exam fee if you have multiple dogs to help make it more affordable. For your dog with gastritis, my Cavalier King Charles has that too. I especially reccomend a holistic vet for that, because you are going to get a real solution to the problem as opposed to the limited and expensive options an allopathic vet has for this condition. As far as pet insurance, I might get emergency coverage for your poodle in case of an acute injury, but if the pre-existing clause will be used to dispute charges against everything else, read carefully. There are some pet insurances that cover holistic vet care too! Pets Best is one. https://www.petsbest.com

| The pet insurance is probably going to be more of a hassel than it is worth with regard to coverage as they will classify anything they can as related to the gastritis. I'm not sure on the cost of the holistic vet. As far as the gastritis goes, I would highly recommend a phone consultation with pet nutritionist, Susan Davis. Her information in invaluable in getting a pet healthy again!!!! Pet Health Pet Nutritionist Holistic Pet

| From what I've seen, the initial consultation with a holistic vet (at least in my area) is much more expensive b/c as CupofDog stated, it's a time-consuming appointment where they really get to know you and your dog. After the initial appt, the other vet visits are no longer $180.
