| Looking for a Yorkie I am currently looking for a small yorkie without an expense price tag. I want a female small, which I will have spayed. Have looked at many yorkies and notice there activity is different from one dog to the next. One could be laid back while the other is bouncing off the wall. I have an appointment tomorrow to look at a month old female. My question is since it is so young how will I know what its temperment will be? Not sure if I am over analizing the situation or not. I would appreciate any feedback on this issue and also how to recognize a good yorkie. Thank you |

| A month old puppy is too young to tell much by at all. Their eyes will have only been opened for about a week and they will barely have their legs under them. There's no way to judge temperament, size, health or coat quality at that age. A Yorkie is pretty much generic until about 7 0r 8 weeks old and then you may be able to get a rough idea of the type of dog it will turn out like. You can't have a really good idea until about 12 weeks old. Looking at the parents, while good, isn't going to give you a definite idea of what the pup will turn out like. If the 2 parents have been paired together before, pictures of those pups will help but then you're trusting the breeder to be honest which isn't always the case. Finding a breeder you can trust is very important. One that is a YTCA member will be adhering to the club's rules and will be striving to improve the breed with their breeding program. Remember too, that an unhealthy Yorkie is never a bargain, no matter the price. BTW, welcome to YorkieTalk. This is a great site and if you look around, you may just find your pup here. There is a for sale forum and also the health/diet and sick/emergencies forums are very informative. |

| You need to read about 90 dogs recently seized that will go up for adoption in about a month (they have to formally charge the owner first). You can find info at theledger.com | The Ledger | Lakeland, FL or www.polkonline.com They will go for the normal adoption fee for Polk County Animal Shelter. It may pay for a winter break to FL now that gas is cheaper. They showed them on tv and there are several yorkies to choose from, but you know there is a lot of interest on pure bred pups for a minimal adoption fee. good luck! |
