| Ok you guys, i have a very uncomfortable question to ask... Hey Everyone... I'm sorry I even have to ask this question, but I've never had a male dog before. So here goes...... My boy Rocco is 10 months old. When I took him in at the 6 month mark my vet said she wanted him to gain some weight before she neutered him. He was only a little under 2 lbs at 6 months old.. This may have absolutely NOTHING to do with this but it might.. ANYWAY, he does his fare share of humping and we are going to try to get him in in Dec, but with the holidays and how crazy it is we may have to wait till Jan, BUT his humping is not too excessive. Last night I woke up to him almost violently humping my arm! When I looked at "HIM" it was ALL THE WAY out, and I mean a lot!! I was taken a back by it! Oh I'm so sorry I have to ask this! I mean the poor lil' boy could hardly walk! It took quite a while for it to go back "IN" but not all the way back "IN". This morning when I left for work at 7am "IT" was still poking out a little. I told my b/f that if it didn't go down by mid morning to get him to urgent care.. Well it did go all the way back in... Is this normal?? Am I trippin'? I pretty much know how human male anatomy works, but not canines... Any insight or advice would be appreciated.. Or am I just WAY too overly worried about this? I mean I feel completely TRAUMATIZED by seeing what I did last night! LOL Again, I'm sorry I even had to ask, but my vet isn't in the office today and you guys ALWAYS have so much knowledge about everything with these babies!! Thanks!! xx

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Actually if it gets stuck out....he needs "help" in retracking it. Fortunately I have never had to do this....but have read you use lubricant and slide the skin back over it. I think I'd take mine to a vet... Btw, laughed over your edit comment.

| Sounds like he is now sexually mature and ready to be neutered, for sure. Unfortunately, I do have experience in this matter. If it does get stuck out, keep it lubricated. KY will do. Usually the little hairs get rolled inside the skin and keep it from closing back over his penis. Gently pull the skin back down the shaft and try to make sure the hairs are all out and then gently slide the skin back up toward the tip. If it is out too long or gets too dry, it can swell up and you won't be able to get the skin back over it. I swear the next part is true. If it is truly stuck out, pour granulated sugar on it, and wait. It could take 30 minutes. The sugar draws the moisture out so the swelling goes down and the skin can cover the penis again. Hopefully you will get him fixed and that will take care of it. Good luck.

| Okay, I've heard the granulated sugar thing, but the reason I was given was different. I was told that it causes him to lick it, thus providing "natural" lubrication. So, IDK! LOL!

| Everybody gave good advice. When Chachi came home after his neuter (we got him at 11 mos. from a rescue)... he had it "stick out"... he wasn' jumping on any of us though! I think that it is normal... a neuter will help...he doesn't do that anymore.

| Just to set the record straight -- I didn't go through my kitchen cupboards trying spices on him...LOL. I had to take Jersey to the vet for this, and he told me this at-home remedy when all else fails.

| [QUOTE=katelin;2355891]Just to set the record straight -- I didn't go through my kitchen cupboards trying spices on him...LOL. That cracked me up. Our male boxer is not neutered. Yes, we are going to breed him to my daughter's female once, and then have them both fixed. We have trained the male boxer to "put it up". I don't know how we did it - he just sucks it back in when I fuss at him...... Sometimes, I wish this would work on the hubby. |

| Chip does this with his pillows and his red rocket comes out all the way too... he even chases it. Most dogs chase their tails, or balls, or toys... no... mine chases his lipstick! And yes, I have had to KY it back in its home. Don't feel embarrassed about this kind of stuff... we've all had to deal with this kind of stuff!

| LOL I had this happen to my toy poodle before we had him neutered. It would NOT go back in and I took him to the animal emergency clinic. It had been out so long it was too dry so they put lubricant on it to get it back in. I was sOOOOO embarrassed. HE acted embarrassed too!! After that I kept the lubricant they gave me on hand. It didn't happen again - thank goodness. |
