| New puppies -dock tails & dew claws?? We have 4 new puppies as of Nov 15th & our vet does not dock tails or dew claws - Can we use the rubber binder method ourselves - and how does that work - Also removal of the dew claw - how is it done? Last edited by jaguargram; 11-25-2008 at 12:27 PM. |

| So your puppies are 10 days old? Thats a little too old to have these procedures done without a vet. Tails and dews are done around day 3, not day 10 or 11. I suppose you could probably do it but it will be VERY painful for the puppies at this age.

| Find a vet to do the procedure. It's not something you want to do if you're not already experienced. It can be traumatic after the first few days but I had a little girl done in October at 15 days old. The vet held off because she was very small and not thriving. When she finally had it done, everything went fine. With yours at 10 days old, I would find a vet ASAP and get it done. Every day you wait only makes it harder on the pups. |
