| Need Advice!! Yorkies Cavaliers and Friends OK, so, my Yorkie mix, Ella Bean is darling and 2 lbs....she is an angel. She sits, will do a high five and is polite with company. She is about a year. Louis, my Cavalier King Charles is about a year and a half. When its just family, he is a perfectly normal boy, playful but obedient. When friends come over, he GOES NUTS. And now, friends are saying they don't like him...They say he is annoying and crazy. He is definitely more demanding then Ella, but he does sit and lay down on command. I think its the way my FRIENDS interact with him, they provoke him by staring directly at him, waiting for him to behave badly. Its a chicken/egg scenario now. Also, I think he senses their nerves. He is less then 12 pounds! I am not talking about non-dog people either! AND on top of it all, I have put up with her toy poodles RANCID breath and never said anything since I was 10 years old and this one friend is constantly making comments about Louis' behavior and if he passes gas....Am I an overprotective mom who needs to train my dog better? Or do I need new friends???

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | Sounds to me like that friend just doesn't like your dog. Is your friend the type who has nothing nice to say. Just tell your friend to ignore your dog and if they keep talking negatively about your baby, then you might have to make that call. |

| My A.J always gets very excited when people come over. If he had it his way, he would greet everyone with a big 'ole lick across the face! We don't mind it too much but most of our friends and family don't really care for it. We've handled the situation by talking to our friends and letting them know that they need to be calm around him and not wind him up. Also, we've let them know that it is fine with us if they are stern with him and tell him NO when he's doing something they don't like. In my opinion, I want my dogs to know that they have to listen when other people discipline them, not just me.

| Real friends are supportive, helpful and non-judgmental. Friends are those you can express how you feel without repercussions. Friends are those you can "talk" with knowing whatever you say will go no further. Now, ask yourself if they are "real" friends and if you want to continue any form of socialization with them.

| I know exactly what you are going through. We have a sheltie Max and he is very hands on with our friends. He will bite their butts and just want to play. he is not trying to attack but trying to have them paly with him. Friends have wanted us to actually put him in his crate when they are over!! I refused! I told them they should leave LOL! but yeah if your friends are disrespecting your baby..skin or fur...they are they are the problem! (like previous poster) they are probably making him wind up and then dont understand he will not stop lol

| I agree! And I think she winds up Louis because she coos all over Ella Bean - you can not do that! I have told her she can't treat one dog one way and NOT expect the other to get wound up. I have also said she is welcome to scold him (no hitting). And finally, she knows how I feel about these dogs, and she uses the term 'Louis overwhelms me' - well, maybe if you didn't act overwhelmed, he wouldn't take advantage of you! HE IS 12 POUNDS!! Toughen up!! Regarldless, I have started focusing more on my 'dog friends' and become really involved in my local meetup groups. I just need to be with other dog folks!

| So much of how a dog reacts is because of the energy we humans give off. When its me and my dogs, everyone is calm and happy! She brings out the worst in him! And she makes her own dogs neurotic. Her toy poodle shakes constantly because she is so nervous. Its totally my friend's level of anxiety!!!

| When Mommy is mad(me) Cutie shakes and runs to daddy. So I know that they really do feed off our emotions and feelings. Max would love that! lol He attacks hubbys covers when he goes to bed because he wants to play one more time before bed lol
