YT 2000 Club Member | Howling.. My pup howls like a hound dog, lol. My kids say he is howling at the moon like a coyote. Its the funniest thing, (when its not 3 in the morning ) he tips his little head back and just howls away. Does anyone else's yorkie do this??

| Oh, I wished one of my 3 would howl. They are all great talkers, but no howling. I try and try and they just look at me a little scared, "Momma, are you ok? Did you remember to take your medicine today?" I'll settle for the great conversations we have tho, they are all very vocal and have a large variety of sounds they make.

| No, my dog does not howl at night. Dogs howl, because they are trying to tell other "I'm here." I learned this information on petplace.com. When I was a child, I had a White German Sheppard. He was an outside dog, and he howled at the moon at night. He made it hard for my brother to sleep, because he howled right outside my brother's room. I use to laugh about it when I was a child, and it made my brother so angry. Now me and my brother laugh about this when we reminisce about our childhood pets. |

| I agree with you! I had to stop my dog from crying in his kennel, because he got louder and louder. You have to tell them that this behavior is not acceptable. Cute behavior has a puppy might not be cute behavior has an adult. |

| My 8 week old pup howls as a symptom of separation anxiety - he begins whimpering when I leave and within five minutes works his way up to a full-blown howl. It's very melancholy... But sort of cute too, because it reminds me of Lady from Lady and the Tramp during her first night home. I'm in the process of nipping it in the bud right now while he's still really young through positive training when he's quiet, because I live in an apartment complex and that behavior isn't gonna fly when he gets older... |

I am sooo glad Mine aren't the only ones that Howl. this is what I was told. Some dogs will howl because of separation anxiety. But Personally I look at it this way. Yorkies are for the most part dogs and dogs are descendents of Wolves. Now Wolves will howl when they are separated from their pack members to let them know where they are so that the missing pack member can find them. I tend to believe this is the case with my 4. If I am out of their sight for about an hour and they know I am still in the house my boys will start howling, they have taught Friday this also. They have each other upstairs so they aren't bored, I leave the TV on for them while I am at work. My Mother in law says they are quiet all day up until I get home. But seeing as I am the pack leader as soon as I come home they Howl to me to let me know where they are so I can find them. They are so happy when I open the door that they nearly fall all over each other to greet me. Maggie is the oldest and thankfully she controls herself when they start howling. Thankfully I live in a house so I don't have to control it. Besides I like to hear them howl.
