| We had the same problem with our Biewers (not our Yorkies) but when they turned 1 it just stopped. They chewed trim, bit furniture and ate parts of our new front deck so we replaced and repainted trim, touched up the furniture and restained/painted the front deck. We tried Bitter Apple...they loved it and seemed to be attracted to it so that was a major flop...catching them in the moment wasn't always possible but when we did we gave a firm 'Stop' or 'No' and that would stop it for the time being. The only thing that really worked was when my husband mixed pepper with a small amount of paint to touch up an area...they never touched that spot again. Yes, we had all of the appropriate toys of all shapes, sizes and textures but nothing can replace the taste of fresh pine! |

| Be careful you may actually own that rare breed, a Begorkie, that is often mistook for a Yorkie. A Begorkie is half beaver, half goat and half Yorkie. They not only can chew baseboards, but also climb with amazing skill and speed to chew on things in your home that you thought safe because they are up off the floor. Although as cuddly, cute and affectionate as any Yorkie there lurks in their DNA the unquenchable need to chew and climb. And they are far superior then any Yorkie with the, "What? I'm not doing anything wrong. Aren't I adorable. I love you sooo much Momma!" look. I didn't realize such an animal existed until we got Gracie Ruth. Then after finding chewed up baseboards in our home and actually catching her in the act of tearing off a piece of the wood fence to devour, I decided I better get on the internet and do some research. And yep, sure enough, we had a Begorkie. And as if we weren't foolish enough to bring one into the house, we got her full brother a few weeks ago and he equal in every way in her ability to chew and climb. Try buying some Bitter Apple to spray on the wood. It did seem to slow Gracie down and she found it simpler to just chew on her toys. Yogi...well he seems to rather enjoy the nasty taste, but he is a boy and generally boys seem to enjoy nasty stuff more then girls. (Just kidding guys!)

| I second this advice. I had the same problem with a litter in the one time, took the deodorant suggestion and it worked like a charm! That an make sure he has lots of chew toys that are more appealing than the wood! Of course, I still have not gotten around to fixing the baseboard and window sill... |

| Mine is chewing up the shag rugs. I sprayed them with bitter apple and I think he thought that was the whip cream to make them go down easier. |

| OMG.....I've been had. All this time I thought I had a Yorkie and now I find out she's a Begorkie!! I'll have to try the deodorant trick and cross my fingers Gracie won't find a new place to chew. Then I'll have more places to touch up. Ugg...

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | It's official--Yorkies love wood. I don't think I have one corner in any room, or a door frame that has NOT been nibbled on. OP-If I remember correctly, you are the one who is going to leave your dog with the neighbors....if you recollect I said they may end up crating her more than gating her when they can't watch her...to save their trim work |
