| Car Sickness / Motion Sickness - Forever? Hi So my new little Peanut gets car sick. She got car sick the whole ride home the day I drove to pick her up, and when I took her to the vet I walked there, carrying her in a bag, and she puked in that! Even though I was trying to avoid it by not driving, and walking slowly and not moving the bag much. I've yet to get her a collar, so hopefully once I do and I take her for walks outside she's fine. She's fine inside. My real concern is the Holidays... ie: for Thanksgiving we're driving down to Philly, a 4/5 hr drive. I can deal with the throw up, but that can't be good/healthy for her to throw up for 4/5 hrs. Should I leave her w/ a friend and take my other 2 dogs only? (Though I'll have to wash her after driving to a friend's house). Is there something I can give her to make her relax enough to not puke? My poor nervous baby... Thanks!

| Happened to Gus when I drove him home and drove him the vet for his physical. I took him on short practice drives a couple of times, and he's been okay since. I think the vet can give medication for motion sickness.

| My Bella has developed the same problem. At first she was petrified of the car...once she got over that she would throw up...go figure. lol. But my vet recommended meds for our next trip. Jen and Bella

| My Jewels gets sick even in short trips and I give her rescue remedy and it helps. However for a trip that long I would get something from the vet

| Lucie gets sick whenever I have her in her carrier, whether I walk with her in it or if I have her in it in the car. She also gets car sick pretty bad, If I take her to the vet I make sure to either not feed her a lot or feed her like 3 hours before she goes to the vet. There's supposed to be medicine you can get to help with it, I think some of the online pet supply stores have stuff but I've never tried any of it

| Ciara gets carsick if we go more than a few miles. I even tried not feeding her before we go and she still gets sick. The vet gave me Cerenia for her, but I haven't been able to give it yet. First she was prenant and now she's lactating. After the puppies are weaned I will try it. |

I wouldn't worry to much about it if I were you. I have other Yorkies that have no problem at all traveling. I think most Yorkies are fine with traveling. I don't know what it is with Ciara. It's not because she's afraid of the car. She's always excited to go whenever I take her. She just throws up.

Loved by Alfie & Evie Donating Member | Alfie was always car sick... but more recently he has been doing a lot better... I think he has gotten bigger which helps his belly handle the car motion... also, we use a hookup to the seat belt so he sits nice in the back strapped in but isn't completely loose in a carrier... where before we had him in a carrier hooked to the seat belt... this I think made him feel like he was being tossed a bit. The sickness should get better slowly... and my vet did advise when he was younger a 1/4 piece of a 25mg benadryl tablet to help when we go on long travels... *I think this just makes him sleepy really.. but it calms the belly as well*... but I wouldnt use any meds with out my vets Okay... Good Luck!!

| I've got one launcher...that's Baxter. Especially when my hubby drives. He snatches the car around curves, and that sets poor little Baxie off. Some on here feed ginger snaps prior to the drive. I just bought a car seat for mine hoping that raising Baxter up to here he can see out will help. Good luck. I hope he grows out of it.

We drove Lucie from Iowa to CA and she only got sick once, when she ate a lot before we got in the car. I held her the whole time and she was ok, just a little lethargic.

| My baby was like this when i first got her and continued maybe for about 6 months. But she eventually grew out of it. I never gave her medicine for it. We just tried to make her as comfortable as possible each time we had to go for a ride. I mean she still doesnt go jumping for joy when its time to ride; but instead of puking everywhere she stays confined to one spot and never moves until its time to get out. |

| My baby Katy used to get carsick until I got her a booster car seat so that she could look out the window while traveling. It worked well for her. |

| My GiGi is HORRIBLE in the car. If I put her in anything like her carrier she get so sick. (food or not) but if I hold her in my lap she doesnt get sick, she just falls asleep. She has gone on 2 hour rides and no sickness. If it gets bumpy she instantly get sick whether I am holding her or not.

General Lee got sick in his crate until I also got him a booster seat. We have taken him on 6 hour drives and he just sleeps, wakes up, looks around and goes back to sleep. We stop every 2 hours to walk him. He travels so much better than my first one did.
