| carpet cleaning/Black light Good morning everyone.I am having an odor problem with my cat on an oriental rug (my daughter closed the door to the litter box).So I went to the store bought a black light and Natures Miracle.Well of course I just had to play with the black light in every room in the house. My bedroom carpet is a flourscent mess.Do I shampoo it with carpet cleaner then treat remaining stains with Natures Miracle,or treat then shampoo I didnt even know they were going in my room but under the light there are quarter size polka dots everywhere.I guess my new yorkie is the culprit. Some advice dont buy a black light -you might be shocked.Ha Ha.Any advice on proper treatment?? |

| I just received a magazine offering this "black light" to find pet stains. It really caught my attention. I am sure of "pet mistakes" in our home and would love to use the light to find them and clean them. I love "Odo Ban" for cleaning, it's really a wonderful cleaner and odor eliminator.

| The best odor eliminator is - 1 bottle hydrogen peroxide, 1 teas. baking soda, and 1 tablespoon dawn . mix together pour on problem areas. this is a wonderful concotion for cat pee,, I used it, when my 16 year old cat, started going where she wanted! Let the carpet dry on its own and sweep up.

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | We tried the blacklight test about a month ago now...and lets just say we were so shocked by how many stains there were everywhere...we now have hardwood floors in the house!! I had no idea there would be half that many as we were always good about deep cleaning the carpets when we saw a mess!! Guess they were having accidents while we were not looking!!! Beware of the blacklight!!!

Did the Urine B Gone be gone really work? Is it something that can be bought at Petco?

| Just don't use a steam cleaner. It will set the stains.

| I did the blacklight test last week because we had our carpets shampooed recently and I wanted to see if that got rid of anything... It DIDN'T DO A THING! I was pretty mad. I then proceeded to saturate every single glowing green spot with Nature's Miracle. I checked on it a few days later and the stains are STILL there. Nature's Miracle has always been my go to product but I guess it doesn't work on stains that are old.. I'll have to try the Hydrogen Peroxide solution and hope that works! Thanks for the tip!

| Very interesting thread.....Nope, I just couldn't put myself through using the black light until I had new flooring lined up to be installed immediately! Nice to know the steam cleaner is basically worthless if there is an accident you didn't notice happening in the first place. I can only imagine how many I have set seeing I clean my floors on a monthly basis. Ugh....

| I don't dare try the black light but this is a very interesting thread. I live in a ranch style one story, with a lot of tile but carpet in the den, bedrooms and hall. When Chloe and Lacey were puppies, of course, the area with the most accidents was the den. That's where we stay most of the time and that's where they have their kennels. Anyway, my carpet is pretty old, so I used Nature's Miracle, had them cleaned, etc but didn't worry too much about them until one of my daughters came in and told me my house now smelled of dog. So, I set out to find a flooring that could take a beating, that would not absorb the urine but look good. After my research I ended up with a product called Retroflooring, which looks like hardwood. The decision was made based on my research that said doggie accidents would go into the wood itself unless the "accident" was removed immediately. I like this product, it has a lifetime warranty, is actually used on dance floors it is so durable but it costs about the same as hardwood. People who come into my house comment on my new hardwood floor. I'm thinking about buying this when I replace all my carpet. The downside is it is a hard surface, I bought an area rug to give it some softening. I'm now at a loss as to what product to use. My girls are housebroken but there is always the accident and I still want another yorkie someday. Any ideas? |
