I think Paris went into heat for the first time @ 8 months... She has been acting weird along wiht it. I'm a little concerned... here's why...

the other night she was yelping in her cage... after I couldn't take much more of it, I let her out and she jumped into my bed and went to sleep... She's very good about staying in the cage, but whatever.. I needed to get rest.

Well, in the morning i realized why she was crying. She had pooped in her cage?! I thouht to myself.. well, that's why she didn't want to stay in there.

WELL... yesterday I decided to give her a bath. She was looking a little scraggley. when I put her in the tub, I noticed what I thought was mud??? Well, caught up in her butt hairs was a glob of POOP! I felt soooo bad that the little thing was going around for a day and a half with poop in her butt.

That explains why she kept trying to clean herself down there - complicted by being in heat! I feel soooo bad that I didn't notice earlier...

Anyway, she isn't doing too well right now. She's not herself... Could she be ill or is it just that she is not sure what's going on with her 'heat' kicking in for the first time?

Did your female act different during her first season?? Should I be concerned?

Some female do act differently when they go into heat. Others act completely normal.

Check her vulva and see if it is swelling or if there is blood.

I have found that my female bleeds very little and what little she does, she keeps herself clean. It about drives me nutz at night when she keeps cleaning herself, but there's no stopping her. She does swell....alot. Also, she might go six months, but it might be eight before she's in heat again. It's sooooo different than when my large breeds went into heat!

I talked ot the breeder... the mother has the same behavior... I think i'm kinda' liking the 'red storm' on this female. she's turned her attention to something other than me! How much longer is my break time?

Seriously though... I have to visit my parents this weekend. Is there any thing should know about traveling with a dog during the Red Storm?

My girl went into heat just shy of eight months. Her attitude was normal and no major changes just small drops here and there of the red stuff but she kept herself quite clean. What got to me was how her vulva swelled up and the way she humped my green cushion. That was her boyfriend for the time being while it lasted. Now she is back to herself.
