If I can find out from AKC a list of breeders who are in good standing? Im about ready to pull my hair out going through so many breeders websites and figuring everything out...or will vets offices be able to give out references? ugh, I had NO idea this would be so stressful!

Here is the link to the YTCA breeder referral. The AKC does recommend that you contact the parent club for your breed when looking for a puppy. I've had success using breeders from this list and I know others have as well.

I have actually talked to her on here about these puppys, but thats a little out of my price range, thats where Im having difficulties, I dont want to spend much more than $700 for a puppy, but want it be healthy and come from someone who is in this for the right reasons, I dont know if I'm being too picky or what but nothing has been "falling right into place" as of yet...

With that in mind...I don't think the list of YTCA breeders will help you much in that department either. Those are show breeders also.

Keep looking...and save more money if necessary. It will be worth the wait.

its not really that I dont have the money, its just that I cant imagine spending so much for a puppy just to be a pet and not to show or breed...just my own opinion. I've been wanting a yorkie for years, its def. worth the wait i believe, but i've just been waiting so long already

Well....you could break down the cost. Hopefully puppy lives to be 14 years old. So a 1400 dollar puppy is 100 bucks a year.

I understand what you meant...truly I do...but in my case to get a puppy from a breeder whose goals and breeding program met my criteria...I was willing to spend the money to obtain that.

I could buy a yorkie puppy out of the newspaper here...any day of the week for 700 dollars, but honestly I doubt any of those breeders would meet my expections.

I think that Im going to make a checklist of what I am looking for and what I am expecting and see what responses I get then...maybe somebody will hit the spot I may have already heard of this person and just dont realize it...i have spent AT LEAST 6 hours a day over the past week looking and researching yorkies and breeders, my brain is fried and everyone is starting to run together...Im off to bed, hopefully I have better luck tomorrow

Those "bargain" puppies can end up being much more expensive in the long run. Breeders who sell their puppies for $700 do not health test the parents nor do they do any genetic screening. As a result, they are much more likely to produce puppies with one or more of the inherited problems Yorkies are prone to like liver shunts or luxating patellas. Surgery for both those conditions run into the thousands.

My Lady is a poorly bred rescue and her vet bills are $5,000 a year now.

Another thing to consider that if you want a Yorkie who looks like a Yorkie is supposed to look, you have to get a puppy from a breeder who is carefully breeding to the standard. "Bargain" puppies come from parents who are way off standard and the result is puppies who grow up to be pretty far from the standard, too. Many of those bargain puppies grow up to be much, much bigger than the standard calls for, often weighing in the teens.

I got my sweetie from our local animal welfare and I love him to pieces. He's 2
and a pure bred. Since I work I did not have the time to house break I didn't want a puppy. Just had to get a schedule going and its been great. When I got him in June they had pulled 2 teeth, neutered him, and microchipped him. Plus he was on meds for lyme desease and ear infection. He cost me $150 and worth a 100 times that.Remember that in these hard times many people have to give up their babies. They need to have a loving home like the one they came from or in my case a better home.

thier are some very good breeders here on yt, I think bluesky is in kentucky, salliesyorkshires.com is in ky now, I would buy close to you so you can see how they live, the parents, etc, and make sure they give you a gauntee on your baby, breny knows a lot of good breeders too. Just be careful of puppy mills! good luck on you hunt for your baby, I do hope you find the right one for you, everyone here has given you good advice, good post too, blessings

thank you guys for your responses...What kind of heath guarantee should i be looking for? some places i've looked say "life threatening hereditary defects" dont I want “any hereditary defects”? or is that not something breeders will guarantee?
