Default Blue puppies

Hello,
My yorkie just had 3 pups last week. Two of them are Blue (and tan). I read quite abit about them. I do not beleive everything negative I have found on them.Even though MANY negative things are being said by yorkie breeders.I am a german Shepherd breeder and have TOP GSD's. To many GS breeders, Blues are like a bad VooDoo, they also claim Alopecia and many other problems with them. I HAVE Blue Shepherds and find NOTHING wrong with them.
I am hoping to hear from anyone with ACTUAL knowledge and experience with the Blue Yorkies. (5 days old now and healthy and vigorous pups)

Welcome to YT!

I know there has been a lot of threads on blue's, but to be honest can't remember what was said. However you can do a search on blue puppies and the threads will pop up. Also you can post this same question in the Breeder's section and I'm sure you will get some answers.

Sorry I was no help at all........................

But

Again, Welcome to YT!

A blue born yorkie is not like the blue that you find with some other dog breeds. It isn't just the fact that blue borns are not an acceptable AKC color, it goes far beyond that. Many, if not most, blue borns have many health issues, from skin issues to death during young pup stages. There are quite a few on here that have experienced this just this year. There are some that have learned the hard way when they have lost all the blues in their litter just weeks after birth.
I don't personally have a problem with off color yorkies, like partis and chocolates, but when it comes down to breeding a color that is known to not only carry health issues, but often kills the dog, I draw the line there. I don't know, as I have never bred German Shepherds, I dont know if blue carries the same associated health issues, but if it does, I would not find that you would be an ethical breeder if you chose to breed them despite that.

Oh that wasnt rude at all, lol.
Yorkies are supposed to grow up to be blue and gold or blue and tan, that is what the standard is for color. If you have blue born puppies that is an entire other story. Blue born are different than pups that grow up to be blue. Not to be rude, but if you don't know anything about what yorkies are supposed to look like as far as color, why would you be breeding?
Unethical is not just calling a puppy a fun name (teacup, shnorkie, whatever) to make money. Unethical would also be deliberately breeding a dog that you know has a high chance of having puppies that have health issues. There are many things that make someone unethical, not just a fun name.
Trust me, if you think I was rude, you have no idea. I am pretty easy going when it comes to dog breeding compared to many here. I am not a stickler on color, and I don't even mind mixed dog breeders, as long as they are breeding healthy dogs and doing everything in their power to find good homes. Like I said, I do draw the line when the health of the animal is involved though.
If you do a search here, you can find many people that have had both positive and negative first hand experiences with blue borns. To me, the bad outweighs the good. Sure there are some that will say "well I have a blue born, and I wouldn't trade them for anything!" And I wouldnt trade my daughter that has a heart condition for the world, but I would also not try to produce a heart problem in another child either.

I would also have both parents fixed as well if I had blues in a litter.

Never set out to BREED FOR THE COLOR BLUE-But THEY HAPPEN. I have heard ALL the crap about Blue Sheps being inferior,From MY OWN EXPERIENCE,,THEY ARE NOT!!!!
I have had 2 litters of yorkies from these SAME dogs, born black and tan-grown into blue(silver) and gold.
My question is to those who have first hand knowledge of ANY REAL HEALTH ISSUES,not what they heard.
I sell ALL my pups on spay-neuter contracts. Not like I'm going to have any bluekiepoos or nothing in the future.
That is where unetical comes in to play.
In your own words "Not to be RUDE" but when you go throwing around terms like ethical breeder "crap", you certainly come off as RUDE!

The link below comes from a site of one of the "ethical breeders" you don't seem to care for....hopefully you'll care enough to read. Good luck to you.

There have been several threads here in the past about blue borns but I don't recall any of them having definitive answers like you're looking for. Here is a link that is usually given for info.Top Yorkie Genetics Chocolate Yorkies Chocolate Yorkie Red Golden Blue Born Yorkshire Terrier I've never been confronted with blue borns in a litter, but from what I've read, I think I would wait until the pups started breaking color to see if any health issues were manifest before placing them in homes. I do hope your pups remain healthy and would like to hear updates on them as they age. Best of luck to you and the pups.

The only thing I said was, Why go into the "etical-unethical breedercrap" I simply asked a question here about Blue Yorkies. i looked up as much as I can find, which was not much. I DID NOT BREED FOR BLUES,Nor, Did I know Blues existed in Yorkies. I know what the STANDARD is. I've had them for years and never had a blue one BORN.You ask a simple question and it gets turned into a slam dunk fest for those that SIMPLY KNOW EVERYTHING! I came here to find out what the FACTS are on blue born pups. I wanted to hear from people THAT HAVE FIRST HAND KNOWLEDGE.
Why do people choose to get RUDE over a simple question.
I already read about the genetics,,been there, done that with the Shepherds. I don't BREED BLUE's,,I got some=plain and simple. I didn't breed for blue yorkies,I got them. Never had them out of the same dogs before.I am looking for answers, nor critics.

hmmm...not sure if this is the same Female you got for FREE from a breeder (but must give 1/2 the pups back), but right there would set a red flag that the breeder you got her from probably isn't ethical

I hope you don't give him the Blue Pups

Praying for the Best

But, don't you see, you took one small phrase that that poster used, (and she wasn't necessarily calling "you" an unethical breeder, only those that choose to breed the blue born yorkies pups) and had to turn around and use the word "crap" in your response, which I considered RUDE. There was a much more diplomatic way to phrase your response, IMO.....why invite trouble?

I don't think you'll get very many responses from those that have had blue born pups, fortunately the occurrence is not too common.

Good observation Sherlock
I am guessing this might have been the reason the breeder was getting rid of her? I would be in contact with that person if I were you.
