| Advice on training Can anyone give me some advice on pee pad training? We have had Ciera for a week now and I have tried keeping her in the xpen with her crate food and her pee pad. While she is in it she will poop on her pad but WILL NOT pee on it. I can even set her on it when she acts like she has to go and she will keep jumping till she gets off and then squats in the floor. When I let her out in the house some, which is just the living room and the kitchen where her pee pad is, she will not do either one she does it in the floor!!AHHHH I can usally catch her when she is about to poop, but when she has to pee, she gives no signs really she will be just running and all of a sudden squat and pee!! Can some one please tell me what I can do??

| It may sound strange to you but have you tried to place pee pads in the place where she is . I have 3 pups and have place a pad in my bed room , one in the kitchen and one in the living room . Can be funny for some peoples but since I did this , they go on . I'll gradually take off the pads when they'll be older . |

| I watched Ramsey the first couple of day, and where I seen him go to pee that is where I placed the pad. Most of the time they will continue to use the same spot.. |

| We had a similar problem with Ellie Mae when we first got her. We would soak some of her pee on the pee pad and put it back in its spot. It took a couple of weeks of doing this but it worked. We use pee pads in the kennel and one other spot in the house thats out of the way. Good luck. |

| I trained Esme on the pads. She was almost perfect by 4 months. I NEVER left her unsupervised. If I couldn't watch her for one second I stuck her in pen (baby play pen). In there was her bed and a pad. It was a small area so she couldn't really miss the pad. When I was with her, I would put her on the pad every 15-20 minutes. I would NOT let her get off until she peed. I would say 'Esme, do your business.' This was REALLY time consuming and sometimes I would be at the pad for like 30 minutes. She would walk off, I would put her back on. When she would pee, I would get really excited and say 'Yes, good girl! You did your business!' and give her a 1 peanut butter Captain Crunch cereal. I was VERY consistent. I ignored her mistakes UNLESS I caught her in the act. Then I would clap my hands say 'no' and pick her up and put her on the pad. I then bought her a much LARGER x-pen where she had room to play and had to walk to the pad to do her stuff. At 6 months, I got rid of the pen all together and now Esme stays free while we are at work. Pee pad training really worked for us and it can work for you. You just have to be really consistent. Keep your eyes on her at all times and when you can't watch her keep her confined to a small space. Good Luck!

| Chloe just went from her crate to outdoors, but it takes a lot of consistent training, out every 30 mins or so, but once she went, praise/treats did the trick, with few accidents. Lacey was pad trained when I got her, but frankly, I gave it up because she would miss, or play/tear it up, etc. So, for me it didn't work. I went to the training I did for Chloe and because she would follow Chloe, she was easier to train but I would not say any small dog is easy because they have little bladders and have to be taken out often day and night to start with, so people who aren't retired like I am have a real time of it. It's funny now, Chloe will come get me, low growl or lightly bark and I know she needs to go outside. Lacey just finds me and start walking toward the backdoor, looking back over her shoulder to see if I'm following. If I don't pick up on it, she will still have an accident and she's a year old. I know her look now but my hubby is clueless. |
