Very lethargic. Its suppose to be followed up with a booster 3 weeks later but I choose not too. Any suggestions for dogs prowned to Tarter |

| All I know is that my vet no longer gives the shot...I was looking into it for one of my guys who is also prone to tarter.... they stopped the shot because I guess a lot of dogs were having a pain reaction to the spot where the shot was given and some were getting sick... I take my guy for a yearly dental..... and try to bruh teeth but he is brutal about having his teeth brushed...

| Personally I wouldn't touch this vaccine.....in my opinion it is too new with too many unknowns....will this cause cancer years down the road?.....every vaccine and medication that hits the market is a risk, there is no way a drug company knows the long term problems until it gets used out in the public on a larger scale than what was done in a controlled study in a lab....which is to say we are their guinea pigs, and that is the truth.....there is a wealth if info at your finger tips that explains about drug testing, clinical trials, and the approval process and the over use of vaccines........This vaccine doesn't just work on it's own it says you still have to do cleanings so what's the point?.... This is from : University of California-Davis Veterinary Teaching Hospital Canine Porphyromonas Vaccine The canine Porphyromonas vaccine is an inactivated Porphyromonas denticanis, P. gulae and P. salivosa bacterin. It has been marketed 'as an adjunct to professional dental cleaning, periodontal therapy, and owner-administrated dental care routines' to prevent periodontitis, as demonstrated by a reduction in bone changes (bone loss/sclerosis) in mice used as an experimental model. The manufacturer recommends that primary vaccination consist of 2 doses given subcutaneously 3 weeks apart. The product license is currently conditional as efficacy and potency have not been demonstrated in dogs. Based on existing evidence, the UC Davis VMTH does not currently recommend routine vaccination of dogs for periodontal disease with this vaccine, and the vaccine is not stocked by our pharmacy.

| I am not familiar with that shot exactly, but as long as you brush your dogs teeth a few times a week they should be fine. Even the yearly checkups aren't required unless there is a lot of tartar, as it is risky to the dog with anesthesia. Although this is not really about the specific topic, I feel it is important. I believe they need distemper and parvovirus only, and rabies if it is required in your area. By giving them extra shots it only harms them and doesn't do anything positive for your dog. "Your vet may not have told you this, but vaccination requirements have changed drastically. Your puppy needs only a couple of vaccinations for only a couple of diseases - he does not need a whole "series" of shots. A vet tech on another yorkie group said not to do this shot as too many dogs are having side effects. My demi has periodontal disease and i am not going to let them give that shot deb w |
