| growling Minnie is great, she slept great, we even took her for a couple of walks around the house. When my neighbor came over this morning, i was holding Minnie and she was wagging her tail, as my friend reached to pet her, she growled, it was not playful, it was a low stay away growl. We watch Ceaser, so i did not let her get away with it. I just touched her to redirect and said no growl, she snapped at me. I put her down and said no and put her on her side gently saying no bite. My feeling is she new and scared, and in some way was protecting me and her. My friend thinks i have a aggression problem, she said well maybe she is a dog who just doesn't like other people. I think it is way early to judge that. How do i handle situations like that in the future, so meeting new people is positive not negative?

| I watch ceaser too,,and what I would have done is let her back on your lap, and have your neighbor continue to try and pet her,,and everytime she growled, I would give her a stern NO, and do the bite thing on her neck that cesar does,,and I would have continued to do that untill she gave in and let the neighbor pet her then I would have praised her and give her a treat.I always watch for learning oppertunites like that for my puppy, you just have to watch your energy, so that she learns that your the pack leader not her!...just remember dont give in, and keep making her do it untill she gives you the result that YOU want,,no matter how long it takes..good luck,,

YT 3000 Club Member | How old is she, how much socialization has she had, chester has had lots when he was a puppy, they like to be territorial sometimes. I took chester to class when he was a puppy. Dogs do different things when they are scared. |

| My Oliver is the sweetest, most submissive dog you'd ever want to meet. BUT, there are a few things that make him growl and snap. We were playing once, and I blew in his face.....HATES IT. Also, when I mess with his facial hair he gets growly face. He has reddish tear stains so I wipe his face with a washcloth every day and he will sometimes snap at my hand by the time I get to his second eye. By cesar's rules, I'm sure I should do things like not let him on furniture and roll him on his back, etc. But he has never been aggresive to other people, and I guess I don't see it as a big deal. BTW, i had a bulldog once who never growled at anyone except for 1 neighbor I had. He turned into a different dog. I chalked it up to a "vibe" he got from this guy. I would make sure you try to socialize your pup and see how she does with other people. Then go from there. Maybe it was an isolated incident.

Growling is just dog talk and if you shut that off and they are scared then they have not choice but to tall you by going for a snip. She was scared and I would have backed up and gave her room to calm down first. I tey working meeting new people both with her on the ground so she can back away and in your arms were she can not get away. It is aggression but it not the end of the world ... it dog speak... I likely say thanks to my dog and for telling me she was scared and back up. JL Then asked the nieghour to pass a treat.
