| What do you mean "ruin"? Behavior-wise, health-wise, what? Also, I am just wondering why you would consider breeding your dog to a "not purebred poodle." Breeding should be left strictly to the experts. There is an enormous surplus of unwanted mixed breeds all over the country. There are over 3500 yorkies and poodles combined on Petfinder as we speak.

| I don't understand? How could it ruin your dog to breed to another dog? I think that you probably need to do more research. How do you think mixed breed dogs get out there?

| What breed is your poodle mixed with? As far as ruining your yorkie, I'm a little confused about that question also, but, it won't do anything to your yorkie to breed, other he's going to start marking everywhere once he's been used for breeding |

| Besides the answers you'll be getting here regarding mixed-breed breeding, I do have to say that if you're not serious about breeding for the right reasons, you really need to rethink it. I can tell you from experience with our male toy poodle, that the one time we studded him out we got beautiful pups but I paid in the long run because of his constant marking in the house. I recommend neutering him for a long pet life.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I agree with the above posters about there already being enough dogs in shelters, so no one should be breeding any mixes and very few should be breeding at all! As far as, will it "ruin" your male......yes, his temperament is likely to change, generally, a stud behaves differently than a pet.

| Ruin in what way? Any male dog that is allowed to breed has the potential to start unwanted behaviors and their personality could change...as in, he might not be your sweet little boy anymore but he might live to breed.

| WOW!!! I didn't expect so many rude replies!! To those of you who were polite and helpful...THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE ADVICE!!! That's all I wanted. Just to let everyone know I am not a breeder. However I have bred my yorkies before. I have 1male and 2 females. I have bred my male to both of my females, but have never considered crossbreeding. I was asked by a friend who has a poodle if I would be interested in breeding Milo to her female. I am hesitant about this due to all the facts you all have listed. Most of you asked what I meant by ruin my male. I was referring to him marking the house and I've always heard that it ruins their genetics. I did not mean to offend anyone or anypup by using the term "ruin"!! Despite what some of you may say Yorkiepoos are adorable and a very popular breed!! True dog/animal lovers DONOT care if there dog is purebred they accept them and love them for who they are not what papers come with them!!!!! Not everyone can afford a purebred yorkie!! I know lots of family's who would love to have one, but can not because of the cost. Unlike "Breeders" I AM NOT IN THIS FOR THE MONEY!! I only asked a question didn’t expect to get my head bit off!! |

| I am sorry you feel like you got your head bit off, but you have to know that the people on YT are very passionate about the breed, and most breeders on here are breeding to improve the yorkie breed. So when people ask about mix breeding you do get some more passionate than the most, also when you ask a question about breeding on here, expect to get everyone's thoughts on it. The problem is we try to help all the babies in the shelters, so many unwanted dogs, so thats why many people on here think that breeding mixed is not a good idea. I wouldn't do it, thats my thought on it, cause I am trying to improve the yorkie breed & preserve it,when you do mix breed you don't know what you will be getting, they are adorable but I have a mixed Yorkie/Maltese that I bought 11 years ago before I knew about the breed, I have a lot of health issues for years with Peanut, so thats something to consider also.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | You say you're not a breeder but have had him breed both your females...what does that make you, if not a breeder? Also, if you have already bred him, then you really know the answer to your question about how it might likely affect him. As far as, "ruins their genetics" I don't understand how breeding could alter his genetics?
