| Male vs Female Yorkie Who is most loving and attentive?? For those of you with both males and female yorkies I have heard that males are more loving and attentive. I have a female and will be getting a male. Do you think that males are more attentive??? My female is very loving and follows me constantly. |

| Well, as far as I'm concerned, it's not about being male or female, just the temperment of the dog. I've had males for over 20 years. Some were just as loving/cuddly as can be, an others, more to themselves and attention on their terms. Last year, we rescued a female. She is fabulous. The best dog ever. Loves to be in your lap or lying besides you. Max, whose one, is a little lover as well. Just loves being held, with his head on your shoulder or lap. Ceasar, definitely wants attention on his terms only. I'm sure you'll get lots of opinions on this topic. Good luck

| It's been my experience that as far as you looking for a stereotype goes, males within the Yorkshire Terrier breed tend to be more cuddly and dependant vs. the females. |

| I started a thread the other day about this. My male is definitely more cuddly and snuggly than my female. If he tries to get away, all I have to do is hold on and he settles right down. She on the other hand will come and get a few hugs and kisses and off she goes!

| I have 3 males and 1 female. They all like to be in my lap but my little princess is more of a mommas girl, so i guess the little girl is the winner but i think a lot of the reason is i spoiled her when she was pregnant

| I've always gotten females because I thought they were more loving. But I have heard from so many that males are the easier going and the lovers. Now I have 2 females that they both have to be right beside me, on me and kisses all the time. I can't imagine a male being more loving. However I can believe they might be easier going. As my females they are the bossy type and they like to rule. I have one female Cali she is the tomboy. She doesn't like being brushed, so she has the short cut. She doesn't like the lap, she will come over stand up you rub her head and she is off. That is all the lovin she needs. She would rather be running, jumping and following our 90 lb male and looking around for what she can find. She is curious and noisey. So good luck I think you will find all types of answers. They are just like humans they all have personalities and depend how we raise them.

| I haven't ever had a male yorkie... but I know Tiffany is definitely a mommys baby. She is my little shadow. It really aggravates my husband! When I was much younger I had a male maltese and he was also a mommys baby! So what can I say? It may just be ME that's like-able! lol!

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | male vs female. Male Yorkie vs Female Yorkie Many people feel that a female yorkie will make better pets than male yorkies. This conclusion is usually based upon inaccurate information. We will take some of the common misconceptions of male and female yorkies behavior and discuss what we have actually experienced. In discussing these differences we will be speaking in terms of generalizations. These generalizations of female and male yorkies traits are like that of generalizations of female and male human traits. For every generalization there are always exceptions. Female yorkies are sweeter and more affectionate that male yorkies. Our experience is that male yorkies are usually more affectionate, exuberant, and attentive as compared to females. They seek your attention and are very attached to their people. They also tend to be more steadfast, reliable, and less moody. They are more outgoing, more accepting of other pets, and take quicker to children. When we have company we invariably have to put the females in another room until the company leaves. The female yorkie may be less likely to wage a dominance battle with you, but she can be cunning and resourceful in getting her own way. She is much more prone to mood swings. One day she may be sweet and affectionate the next day reserved and withdrawn or even grumpy. (Sounds just like human females.) Most females will usually come to you for attention, but as soon as she has had enough, she will move away. Males are always waiting for your attention and close by. Female yorkies are more docile as compared to male yorkies. In the dog pack framework, females usually rule the roost. Therefore they determine pecking order, and compete to maintain and/or alter that order. The females are, as a result, more independent, stubborn, and territorial than their male counterparts. Most fights will usually break out between two females. Female yorkies are easier to train than male yorkies. Because female yorkies are, more independent, stubborn, territorial and male yorkies are easily motivated by praise, and are very eager to please, training a male can be easier than training a female. However, a male yorkie can be easily distracted during training, as they just want to get to playtime! Female yorkies don’t display alpha behaviors such as “humping” and/or “marking”. Females are much more intent upon exercising their dominance by participating in alpha behaviors such as humping and in fighting. The only yorkie we own that humps is a female. Just as males will urinate on top of where another animal has, so as to mark, the female will follow this same pattern. Neutered males rarely exhibit secondary sexual behavior such as humping, or marking or lifting their leg. Males that are neutered at an early age usually don't ever raise their leg to urinate. Some of the behavioral traits that we have discussed above are a result of having multiple yorkies. In a household that only has one pet may never experience these behaviors. In our opinion, female yorkies don’t make better pets than male yorkies nor do male yorkies make better pets than female yorkies. One has to understand the differences and decide which sex better suits their lifestyle. The other factor one should take into account is that male yorkies tend to bond to the woman in the household and female yorkies bond to the man in the household. If Glenda and I are sitting on the couch the males are with Glenda and the females are with me. If I go into the other room the females follow me and the males stay with Glenda. We have talked to other breeders to see if they have experienced this same phenomenon and many have replied with stories of women who have bought female yorkies for themselves only to have the female yorkie bond with their husband. Many of these women end up buying a male yorkie for themselves.

| I have one of each..my female follows me everywhere, but, hates to be held(always has), she's almost 6..my boy is 3 and would be held by me all day if I would allow it..he's so much more loving..we just usually had females as we didn't want a male going around lifting his leg all the time..I was very lucky that I got him neutered young and he never started the leg hiking(which some boys have been known to do after the neuter)..but, I would say every male dog I know, tends to be more affectionate than the girls |

| Males. I think just like with humans, the males are just more needy, and they need a mommy to take care of them Diesel is so needy, he always has to be snuggled right up in my neck. He is SO submissive to me too. Lilly is super happy go lucky with me. She likes to be held and sort of stand guard on my lap, but not melt into me the way Diesel does. She also humps my female Shih Tzu for some reason.
