| We need help, antisocial with dogs I posted about this problem half a year ago, but not much changed. Basically, Rocky is very social with people, but hates dogs. He gets very passive and just wants to avoid every dog! He will bark or look at one from a distance, but as soon as that dog shows interest he lays down and thats it. My sisters puppy was all over him for a week that she stayed with us, and he was horrified of her. He even snaped at her a few times. What to do?? He is almost 2 years old. I just want him to have fun, otherwise he is a perfect puppy. Anyone else have dogs like this?? |

| My sister had a dog that was just like that...(not a yorkie) she hated other dogs. We found that she was a very dominant dog...so we had to work out her problems by making her more submissive in general. NOW she loves Dogs to death and has so much fun! Is your little guy dominant? You might try watching The Dog whisperer!!! He's great!!! And his techniques work just as well on Yorkies as any other breed. How often is Rocky exposed to other dogs?? You can't change that behavior unless he is around other dogs . hope it works out for you and Rocky

| I also suggest the Dog Whisperer. But your dog sound more submissive than dominant. I think I would try introducing him to other submissive dogs, one at a time. Also when the dogs are interacting, you need to let them do what dogs do, and not interfere, unless of course one would be aggressive. but the sniffing and the rolling over is all part of dog language. If you give him affection when he is behaving fearful, it will only reinforce that behavior, so it's important that you remain in a calm confident state and not act anxious or nervous or protective. Because he is taking his cue from you. |
