| I'm on the fence with this issue. If I would have had it for our toy poodle many years ago, it would have paid off for us. But who knew he would get bit on the head by a German Shepherd and need a new eyeball??! Yes, it was an expensive surgery but we gradually paid it off. There were a few times he could have used it but Tatum has been very healthy and insurance wouldn't have paid off for us, I don't think. Good luck with your decision!

| It might be worth it for puppies, especially for peace of mind if something major comes up like an accident. I think it is seldom worth it for routine care. As dogs age and their list of preexisting conditions grows, it is less worth it because these things are usually not covered. Probably the best way is to set aside money in an account for your pets and using that in an emergency instead of paying an insurance company.

| I have been looking online at the pet insurance and like any insurance you have to really read between the lines. They dont cover hereditary things like for yorkies they dont cover luxar patella,,or calve-perthes or of coarse previous conditions.Chloe has to have an xray on Monday and they "think" she may have calve-perthes disease,,,the surgery is around 1,000. The insurance would be worth it for me ,,if it covered it!!!!

| I have VPI pet insurance to cover both my furbabies. I've submitted in past several claims to VPI and they have been pretty good in covering the expenses (more ~50%). I've also had ASPCA before and I didn't really like them, b/c it took them forever to process a claim and most of the claims I've submitted was not reimbursable. If your pet is covered by VPI and they develop a medical condition later on, they will continue to cover the medical condition. However, if your furbaby has a pre-existing condition and you sign-up for VPI, they will not cover it. In any case, here's another thread that may have more info - http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...insurance.html

| I think saving money for pet care is the best way. As princess chloe stated. Most insurances don't cover hereditary things. I know it would not have paid much for my 9yr old yorkie either. She has many health problems. We are still looking for a good pet insurance policy. Good luck to you in your search.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | This is a tough one. I have Embrace Ins. It does not cover routine visits. I guess it is up to the individual. I have it in case, just for major expenses. I believe, it covers hereditary illnesses. Thank goodness, so far have not needed it! Good Luck with you decision.

| thanks everyone. i think i like the idea of just setting the money aside for my baby on my own. i have read about some insurances and they're tricky business....plus like alot of you said they dont cover certain things....i guess its better to just save. |

Missing Yoshi Everyday! Donating Member | it is different for everyone...i myself only have care credit..i don't think i would benefit from pet insurance with a premium every month...so i opt to pay for whatever emergency on the care credit card...when and if there was a need...knock on wood!
