| My dogs keep on peeing and pooping when i am asleep We crate train our dogs...they are in their crate while we are away from the house and we have them sleep with us in bed every night. We walk them before we go to bed and they go potty. But when me and my boyfriend are asleep they are having accidents! What do i do ? I would hate to put them in the crate to sleep also. any suggestions? |

| How old are they? I would suggest using the crate at night also. If they aren't going in it when you are gone...they shouldn't do it at night either. I know it is hard to think of putting them in there at night too, but it would be best for all. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I was wondering about their age too. I don't know how long you are gone during the day, and how much time they spend in their crates, but many people use x-pens instead of crates during the daytime. Being cramped in a crate all day and all night is no good. I do suggest that you keep them in a crate at night until they learn that your bed is off limits. We kept a pee pad on a chest at the foot of the bed, and Joey used that, but he was already trained to use the pad.

| PEE or POOP Make sure that where ever they do their business you always clean up after it. Make sure there is no scent of it, because the smell will make them want to do it in the same place. Also, let them know that where they sleep is, where they sleep! If they know it's where they sleep then they'll keep it clean. |

Lol, I thought you meant that they were going in the bed. In that case, I would just clean the area with an enzyme cleaner, and place a pee pad down. It's obvious that they have to go during the night. Your other option is feeding them earlier, and taking them out to relieve themselves right before bedtime.

| LIke others have said ..definately use an ENZYME to clean up old pee and poo scents...otherwise they will always smell it. I would also suggest that you put bells on their collars so you can hear them if they get up in the night. Like was suggested too...feed them earlier and take them out just before bed...good luck!

| My Meka did that a few times when she was younger. I had to finally start crating her at night and that really helped out Now at 1 yr 6 mo. she's able to sleep in the bed no problems Hope all works out for you...

You can get an enzyme cleaner at any pet store. Natures Miracle is one brand Simple Solutions is another, just look for the word enzyme on the bottle, and be sure to follow the directions because it takes time for the enzymes to work. Target sells some too, but I can see a line of demarcation on the carpet after I use it.

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | You can also use a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water. That works really good and it's all natural and cheap. No chemicals or anything. That is what I use and never have to worry about it damaging anything.

| I am one pet owner that does NOT believe in letting my dogs sleep with me..Our human bed was made for us, my dogs all sleep in the family room at night in their little beds, and it works great, plus I get my sleep that way. If they're doing that, they need to be in their crate or xpen at night |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I'm not sure if vinegar actually gets rid of the proteins that cause the dogs to return to the spot. Vinegar is a great cleaner, and is a neutralizer which will neutralize, many smells, but the way the enzyme cleaners work is that they contain a special bacteria, or enzyme, which actually "eats" the protein in the urine, which causes the dog to return to the spot. I know some people use it, but it didn't prevent Joey from returning to the spot.
