Default Puppy Wars

I have 2 precious babies...Lola, my baby girl that is 9 months and 2.75 lbs and Harley, my little guy who is 5 months and 4 lbs. Although they seem to really like being together and have never really hurt each other, they constantly are "wrestling" on the floor and without fail usually my little girl ends up with a yelp or a cry. She is much smaller and pretty tough, but with her little, bitty bones, I'm afraid it won't take much to really hurt her. And when they play rough, they really play rough. She starts these little fights as much as he does, and they seem to be getting worse. They both are very sweet puppies, but I'm afraid the little boy has no idea that he is that much bigger and will hurt her when he nips at her and just knocks her over. You can hear her little head hit when she falls. I work at home so they "live" in my study with me and are sectioned off from the rest of the house because my husband has a large German Shepherd - so there is no way to really separate them other than to crate them, which I have never had to do. They are very unhappy when they are apart. Is this "play" normal if there has never been anything other than a cry or yelp, and should it be getting worse or better as they get older? I spend most of my day yelling "No" and picking one of them up to separate them. They bring me such joy, but this "fighting" is getting pretty old! It seems to be all they do lately. The vet says she is still a little too small to spay, he would like to wait a couple more months, and they want to wait until my boy is 7 months to neuter - will this help? Any suggestions will be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

Confused

I have the same age difference but closer in size. And Bella yelps and barks the entire time they are having their puppy duels. Scooby growls. It sounds like they are fighting to the death but then they end it by licking all over each other. If you figure it out let me know.

When Pixie and Roxie play/fight it sounds like they are killing each other, but they seem to enjoy it. I do not let them play on the bed as I am afraid they will fall off so if they start up on the bed I make them get down. Pixie is almost 3 and Roxie is one and they go at it all the time but then snuggle up together. They do weigh similar though. I would just let them play for awhile and then tell them enough and try and distract them with a toy.

I was hoping that some of this would settle down as they got older, but if yours are 1 and 3, then I might be in for a wild ride ahead! They do cuddle at times, when they are sleeping, so I know they like each other. They constantly follow each other around....but, when one picks up a toy or bully stick, that's it ~ the other immediately attacks for the toy and the chase begins! I am so afraid that while running they are going to run into furniture or a wall, they turn a corner and slide so fast on the floors that it is really scary. It's almost as if they have radar to keep from hitting anything! Oh, how I look forward to bedtime sometimes!

I think that is a game to most yorkies..."take away"...lol My baby and my sisters love each other but the game they love most is "steal their friend toy" we can give them the EXACT same toy..doesn't matter .....they will go for just ONE of the toys and fight over it forever.....they just like to play tug of war with ONE toy. I wouldn't worry too much.....seems very normal..

Wrigley and Camden do this all the time! They are always wrestling and stealing each others toys. Camden is the growler, Wrigley is silent! The only time that Wrigley makes a sound is to let out a squeak and sometimes we figure it's because it always stops Camden in her tracks and Wrigley can get away!
Camden is the rougher of the two and so we just distract them if we feel it's getting too much!

My Yorkie always takes toys from my bigger dog and they play tug of war and they love playing together but i have to be careful as my bigger dog is like 19 KG and my yorkie is 4KG so when they get over excited i have to stop them, but Bonnie(my bigger dog) never hurts Tyler(my yorkie) its always Tyler who makes Bonnie cry out...she is soooooo gentle with him!
