I have a two years old male yorkie. We love him to death, he is our baby, and even sleeps with my daughter. Two weeks ago we got a female puppy, two months old. She is also adorable and full of energy. The male yorkie does not accept the puppy. Something that is strange to me is that if he is playing or eating and the puppy comes to him, he drops the food or the toy, is he allowing the puppy to be the alpha dog?

He doesn't want to play with the puppy (though she is longing to play with him, she is fearless, she is not afraid when he growls at her). He rather sleeps alone than to share the room with the puppy. I am getting very worried about our adult baby, since he looks stress and unhappy. But we can't get rid of the puppy, we love her too. Is this going to get better? What can I do? How long will it take?
Thanks for any tips I am really worry.

I had a male yorkie 4 yrs. old when I got my female puppy. It was the same thing with mine. I just left them alone (didn't force anything) and little by little the male started to warm up to the puppy. It took mine about 2 weeks. I walked into the living room and on the sofa the little female was sleeping and my male was also on the sofa sleeping on the opposite side. It was kind of funny because he would move gradually over until he was sleeping right by her. After that they were the best buddies. I think he was just trying to show her who was boss and once she accepted that, all was well.

Do not lose heart ,it is veery early days. My Alfie was the exact same when we introduced Lottie to him but now he cant stand being away from her!!

They are best buddies and he is very protective of her!
