| Thank Goodness something POSITIVE!!!! As you all have probably read my posts about the whole flea situation I FINALLY got some positive feedback from Fiona tonight!!!!! I am so happy with her right now that I had to get online and post this! with my expierence working at a vets, being a grooming assistant, and just working with animals in general, I was at a loss of what to do with my own puppy. I got Fiona when she was about 3.5 months old. My boyfriend and I took her to the vet on August 25th just so she can get her final puppy visit, and rabies shot. I was mortified at Fiona's behavior with the vet. Now, usually when you go into an exam room, they will have a tech hold your animal while the vet is in there- well in my case, no. I had to hold fiona while the vet looked at her. I was MORTIFIED when I saw how Fiona acted (after thinking it through, I think she was protecting me) but she was just freaking out, growling, and just being really bad. The vet pretty much told me that she maybe one that needs to be sedated to be groomed, and that was my WORST fear ever!!!! Well, after that visit, we came home, and I could tell she was very upset with us. Then she was fine. So I waited a couple of days, and tried to cut her nails for the very first time...OH MY HEAVENS! she was HORRIBLE! Growling, kicking her back feet at me, just being bad, so I gave up! VERY BAD , I know. Well, after working with her, just touching her feet more, and giving her positive feed back, I tried again, FREAKED again. Well, later in the week, she was on my bed, and she was scratching her neck with her back legs, and my boyfriend said "is she whining"? and i noticed that she literally was stuck in her hair with her nails, so i un-hooked her, and thought it was a fluke thing, well 1am, she did it again! So that next morning, before I left for work, I just looked at her, and said " sorry baby girl, we are cutting your nails right now!" I literally had to lay on her, and just cut her nails, i didnt want to leave her in the crate all day, and she could have injured herself even worse! So, last night i cut them again, and she was putting up a little fuss, but 5 min later we were finished! Well, she is really bad for letting me brush her as well. Being a puppy I know she doesnt want to be held still. With all these fleas, I noticed how matted her legs and hind end area was ( very embarassing for me) so i took a clipper and just started doing my thing, and she was PERFECT!!!!!! Usually she puts up a fight, I think she is realizing that its my way or the highway! I know have hope that she will be just fine to get groomed!!!!!! I am so happy that we are FINALLY making some progress here!

I really think that the reason she was like that at the vet is because you were the one holding her... that's how my old vet used to do and Lilly would act awful. At our new vet, a tech holds her while the vet does his business and she doesn't act half as bad . I also take her and get her groomed and I've never had a groomer tell me that she's awful . I really think a lot of it has to do with you not being there. I'm glad you're making progress with her though in every aspect!!!

| It's funny, because yorkies are so small many times parents let them get away with "naughty" behavior...however you just need to keep letting her know that YOU are the boss..as you have started doing.......and eventually she'll submit to you. Apparently she thinks she's the pack leader...(probably why she was being naughty with the vet)so as you teach her..that she HAS to mind you...then you'll help her be more submissive and happier! And that naughty behavior will be a thing of the past. My Daizy, a very submissive little girl...... was awful with the nail clipping...so I just kept at it...same with brushing her....she would try to run EVERY chance she got....With persistance and Patience....now we have NO problems when it comes to nail clipping time...and brushing her each day. She stands very still, lets me do my thing, and I get done with no problem what so ever. I do give her a treat after each nail clip, and brushing...that seemed to give her extra incentive to behave! You might try that too.
