| Back from visiting a breeder! *ugh* Well, I have been emailing this woman back and forth now for a while. As you guys know, I am the queen of 100 questions. Well, this lady had a great answer for ALL of them. I was very impressed with her and thought I had finally found an EXCELLENT breeder. She had both the mom and dad, she only had two puppies available. The pups are 12 weeks old... Well, we get to her house and she greets us at the door with the puppy in her hands. Now, the dog was ADORABLE, but her face was COMPLETELY black. She looked kind of like the pictures I have seen of maltese/yorkie mixes. So, I just think to myself wow, it's amazing how different yorkie puppies can look.... At this point I am expecting her other yorkies to run to the door or something... Well, she takes us to her living room, where she puts up a baby gate so that Esme can meet her puppy (yes, I brought Esme along). So, I ask her if she can bring out the parents (you know the ones she told me that she owns) and her reply is that the male is being used at a stud at her friends house and the female is with her brother, so I can't see them. I ask her for pictures and she said she doesn't have those either... Esme is playing with the puppy (who is TEENY TINY) The woman then offers to show me her boy who is a little bigger., When she opens her garage door I hear some more barking... When my husband asked if she had other dogs she then proceded to tell us that she also bred maltese and bull terriers... So, her boy, also doesn't really look like a yorkie puppy, but okay... I then ask the woman if the puppy is AKC registered.. she says no. I say CKC then? (She had already told me that the puppy had papers). Once again she says no. She then tells us that the puppy has papers FROM ARGENTINA. Okay, so way too many red flags for me. I said thank you so much for your time, your puppies are adorable and left. Geez, how hard is it to find a great breeder??? The more I thought about it as we were driving home, the more it was clear that this woman brought those dogs from a puppymill in South America... Anyhow, Laz and I decided that we are going to WAIT on getting Esme a sibling. I am completing my masters this December. We are going to New York in November and everything is just really hectic right now. Not to mention that being newleyweds, we aren't exactly rich and yorkies are expensive. Also, when I picked up that puppy and held it, Esme was jumping up and down (like when she wants me to pick her up) and I just felt sooooo much love towards her. I would hate for her to think I didn't love her anymore because I got another one... (I know, I'm insane!) Thanks for listening to me guys! I love yorkietalk!

| It is so good that you took notice of the red flags and politely walked away. You did the right thing. Also, I doubt ever that your little Esme would ever feel a lack of love if you adopted another Yorkie. In time they would be the best of friends I bet. Once your life slows down a bit and it's the right time I am hopefull you will find a great breeder. There have got to be hundreds of quality breeders out there to outway the awful ones. And a huge congrats on you being a newlywed.

| I agreed with you too many red flags and most likely she got those poor babies from a puppymill in South America. I feel bad for the puppies but I think it was best not to get any of those puppies. Since you have so much going on is best you wait. Your puppy will come at the rite time. |

| I'm so sorry that happened to you. Good for you also for just walking away. Thats got to be the hardest thing to go pick up your new puppy and then leave empty handed. I'd like to think breeders like her are the exception and not the rule. Good luck in the future. |

| KUDOS to you! That stinks when you talk with someone think that they are wonderful and then are let down. But, better to find these things out before it's too late, right?!

| Wow! Red flags galore!!!!!! She must be hoping someone will fall for the cute puppies once they see them and not care about all the other stuff. That's really a shame. Take your time, you'll find one when it is just right for you! |

| First of all, GOOD FOR YOU for standing your ground, knowing your stuff and not letting her scam you! Life is also hectic for us and I want Sully to have a sibling sooo badly now, but like you, we're newlyweds and if buying the dog was the only expense it wouldn't be so bad, but those initial vet bills are the kicker, IMO. But we can do it, and want to....but we too question if it's the right thing right now. I wish it was...we're still considering. I love love love my Sully. I often wondered that if I got a puppy, I would ignore Sully more. Poor guy, he's my heart I don't want to do that. But we puppy sat Marty on Sunday and even though I had a cute puppy in the house...Sully was still "my boy" - I worked on Sit and Shake with little Marty and Sully sat on the sidelines shaking his paw at Marty every time I said "shake" - how could I EVER love that any less????? heehee

| Maybe I hav just been lucky but I have many more great breeders than bad breeders in my searches for my babies. If I might ask...how much was she asking for the pup? |

| Awww, I'm sorry the puppy didn't work out for you. But that whole process was something you had to go through in order to know what would be best for you and your hubby and for Esme right now. So, now you know. You seem really comfortable with your decision. At a later time you'll realize that you're ready for another one and the process will be easier next time cause you've already done all your research. I think you made an excellent decision.

| I can't believe brokers these days they are just ignorant and think they can pull anyones leg. They make me sick and if I ever in my life come across one they better run cause I have many unpleasant comments to shout. |

| Wow...that is CRAZY!! Good thing you just left. I don;t think the pup came from a puppy mill in argentina, since it is way too young to travel (at least legally) The parents are probably from there and she registered with the same kennel. Mojo is from Brazil and i have both the brazilian (international FCI) pedigree and the akc. What i don't get is all the excuses the breeder made...and later on she admited to breed 2 other breeds? It is already hard to seriously breed one specific breed...can you imagine 3? She is a backyard breeder...or a small puppy mill, however you want to call it!
