| Kennel Question Ok I hate the kennel idea...however I had to bc Tino is a stud dog and he enjoys marking up my house, if ya know what I mean. Well anyway. I decided that I couldnt handle the cage thing. So I baby gate Tino into my small kitchen instead. With a blanket, his toys, a chewy..food and water. We have been doing this for almost a year now. Here is the question: When will he stop yelping to the point of screeching loud screaming noise when I put him in there and then leave for work? Don't they usually get used to it? When I get home it is completely different...he crys but usually sits there patiently until I set my things down and take him outside. But then he is so Hyper and bound up its like he is having a heart attack! Is there something I can do to help him deal with this? Or is this just normal? I cannot figure it out....

| Well I cannot help too much because Mocha is a very independent dog.. What I do to my dogs if I have to leave them at home alone is give them a KONG, stuffed with carrots and frozen yogurt. It will give them something to do for a while, and they will associate you leaving with "getting a treat"! The hyper thing is totally normal.

| Well I was going to suggest day care, but since he's not neutered they may not take him. But maybe you should have a dog walker or a neighbour come by during the day to walk him & play with him. That might help to use up some energy....

Thats a fantastic idea!!! I will definately try that. He won't touch it until I am gone and still have the fit but at least if it is empty when I get home I will know he was doing other things while I was away.

| You can also leave a radio on so they don't feel so alone. I read this somewhere and I thought this was a fantastic idea. I also read that it's advisable to ignore them for the 1st 10 minutes you get home. Don't talk to them, don't look at them, don't pick them up. I think you shouldn't go to him while he is STILL crying, as it will make him think if he cries you will come running. Then he will cry at everything and nothing If he cries and you know nothing is wrong, I don't think it's good to coddle him then. Ignore him. When he's quiet, give him a treat. As far as I know, during training time, you should only give a "reward" if he's been good. | Have you ever tried Belly bands on him? I have 2 intact males that are both studs AND believe me, we would be awash in pee if I didn't use them... I still do not give mine the run of the house-they are confined to kitchen and family room, but even so, belly bands are a staple in our house. They wear them even when I am home....I have had 2 females in heat at the same time and the boys still keep on the bands. They actually come to me in the A.M. to get them on. Of course, the wee treaty-weety they get for being such good boys could have something to do with their good behavior... |

| You might try getting a web cam or a pet cam so you can see what he is doing while you are gone. Or set up a video camera.. when you can see exactly what goes on.

| I use the male diaper while I am home. But I don't like that he would have to wear it all the time so thats why I have to kennel him during the day. I would love to get a web cam set up to see what he is doing all day. I would have to check it 800 times a day but it would be worth it. I do the not talking to him thing becuase we had an issue last year with him getting so hyped up he hurt his back and had to go on steroids to reduce the inflamation, but thats another story. This morning was a little better, no loud screeching and I left the treat behind so we shall see if this works. Thanks for the suggestions I plan on trying them all! LOL. I need to crack this cookie! BTW where would I get a pet cam? I would love to spy on Tino all day!

| I have a porch I put my Yorkie when I go away. It has paneled windows and he can see out what is going on. He enjoys seeing outside and what is going on. This is an idea, that is if you have such a thing in your home. Otherwise, try a radio or TV so he can have some company and he doesn't think he's by himself. At least mine enjoys that too. Good Luck |
