| Ugly Dog Contest I'm very upset yesterday a coworker came to my house and I had Max in my arms, so she and everyone else at work knows about Ivy and Max, so she came over to look at him and said "oh you could put him in an ugly dog contest" look at those ears. I can't believe she said that I didn't even know what to say she is a "friend" and she even has dogs!!??(Hotdog) He is still a puppy and I think he will still grow (only 9 months) But maybe he will always have big ears with one up and one down. I'm so mad and I needed to vent. What do you say to people when they say things like that

| I know what you mean. I was walking my puppy the other day and my neighbors husband came out and said oh look at that rat. I said polietly no shes a yorkie and her name is Cora. He kinda looked at me. I haven't ever said anything rude about his black lab even though I don't really like big dogs. I have always said he is cute and took time to pet him, and even let him stay in my backyard one day while they were showing there house trying to sell it.....then he calls my dog a rat. |

| I don't blame you one bit for being mad! I'd be furious too! People would often make comments about Annie's tongue. She was a breeder at a puppy mill for 5 years before I got her. I had to have all her teeth pulled and her tongue always hung out. Most of the comments were positive, Oh what a cute dog, Oh that tongue is to die for, She is so adorable with her tongue out like that, etc. But occasionally I'd get an ugly comment, from people who don't even know me. I'd just give them a questioning look and ask why would you say that out loud about someone else's dog? Do you know why her tongue has to hang out? And then proceed to tell them that she lived in a wire cage only big enough to turn around in for 5 years. Never touch grass or had any other interaction with dogs or humans. That usually shut them up PDQ! And I always kept a calm manner and didn't attack them. Never once did anyone answer back with another comment. Usually they'd just say they were sorry, they didn't mean to say anything bad. My parting comment would be, if you don't mean anything bad, then don't say anything bad. I find the best thing to say when people are clueless like that is to calmly ask them, Why would you say that? It nearly always shuts them up.

| I think your baby is precious with the ears!!!! It makes him unique. I would be upset also, but just let it roll off your back. Poeple make stupid comments without thinking.

| Thank you. It's one of my favorites. It captured her attitude so well. She was a one in a million dog.

| Since she has a dog too and said that about your dog - you could say: "Yes I could enter him in an Ugly Dog contest but he'd only come in second... AFTER your dog takes first place!" That was just a stupid thing for her to have said in the first place! I honestly think he is very C U T E! And re tongues hanging out - there doesn't have to be anything wrong with a dogs teeth or mouth for them to hang their tongues out all the time. My 2-year-old Shih Tzu hangs his tongue out 24/7/365. When I had him at a vet clinic last fall - the "experienced" vet took one look at him (for the first time ever) and said: Oh, he must be missing teeth. I said: Why? And she replied: Because his tongue is hanging out. I said it always did since I got him at 12 weeks of age. She checked his mouth and said: Nope, he has a perfect mouth - must just be a habit for him. Charlie still hangs his tongue out everyday even when he is sleeping. It makes him unique!

| I would have said, "The reason I love him so much is because he reminds me of YOU!" Now, make sure you have a sweet innocent smile on your face when you say it.

Max is adorable! Anyone who can't see that clearly has bad taste! I think the one ear up and down thing is cute and sets him apart. It only adds to his charm. I think I would try my hardest to respond with kindness. "Well, we think he's just perfect. It's funny I've never heard anyone say anything negative about his looks before." Kind of turn it around on them and make THEM feel like maybe they are ugly (at least on the inside).

| I can't believe how people can be so flat out rude like that. Especially to go into someone else's home and make negative comments like that. People like that would NOT be welcomed into my house. You should've said something like "Oh, are you really into those types of contests? Did you win one of them or something?"

| Usually I try to consider the source and just let things slide. But for some reason, reading this just really ticked me off - the protective mom in me is rearing its ugly head! . Taking my own advise, I am trying to consider the source and I do feel bad for people who feel the need to try to put others down - I think they are lacking something inside and probably hurt a lot. Even so, I just have to say - I think Max is absolutely adorable. I would love to hug and cuddle him and just give him tons of kisses. I have no desire to so much as meet your co-worker - let alone get friendly with her! Our babies are a gift from God - who cares what their ears are doing???? He looks like a happy and loving baby. And I would be willing to bet big money (that I don't have!) that Max wouldn't say anything unkind about your co-worker if he had the chance. I keep telling myself that I don't really like dogs better than people, but reading this just re-affirms that as a general rule I really do prefer dogs! Give Max some extra Idaho hugs and kisses from Roxy and me!
