| Coloring question............. I have a 13 week old Yorkie. He came as a SURPRISE when his Mom Taylor was given to us 4 months ago. LOL Some of you know our story. Anyways, Taylor has a lovely YORKIE silky coat. Grey/black and tan. Ceasar has a mostly black cotton coat with some tan on his legs and around his mouth and eyebrows. I heard that he will not change in color. He will stay black. Well my thing is...... I never see other mostly BLACK Yorkshire Terriers. Does anyone here have a mostly black Yorkie ???? I have seen his Daddy and he definitely resembles Ceasar. I am just a wee bit confused about his coat color and if or when it will change. My thanks to anyone with info/advice for me. |

| Epsilon is a year old and still mainly black. My first yorkie, Gizmo, was mostly black when he died at a year and a half. My mom's yorkie Ruckus is a little over a year and still mostly black. All these dogs are still pretty young and I've heard that you don't really know their true color until they're about 2 years old. My mom's other yorkie is almost 2.5 yrs old and blueish silver with a blonde head and it was obvious at a young age (like 5-6 months) that his coat was going to be this color. Don't know if this helps |

| Almost all yorkie pups start out like Ceasar, lol, they resemble little rottweilers when they're little!!! The tan on the head gradually "spreads" and the whole face becomes tan (in most instances) and the grey hairs start appearing in amongst in the black. A few do ffffdbxfof yeadrtrs, epecially if you keep the coat long. If you clip the coat at 6-8 months its easier to see the change as the new colour comes in at the roots. Here are some pics of Mika you can see the change, she is still only 6 months old and has a way to go, just recently noticed a silvering effect on Mika's back. At 5 weeks; http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/alb...pictureid=5876 At 7-8 weeks; http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/alb...pictureid=7817 At 12 weeks; http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/alb...ictureid=12622 At 16 weeks; http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/alb...ictureid=18810 At 22 weeks; http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/alb...ictureid=21699 Most recently at 25 weeks you can just about see some lighter hairs mingling in with dark, Mika has lovely rich black colouring but I'm pretty sure she will eventually have the blue steel and gold colouring that is standard. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/alb...ictureid=23047 I hope this helps to answer your question, I'm sure your baby will change alot as he grows. Thats one of the most exciting parts of having a yorkie around, its like watching your kids grow, they change sooo much far too quickly but its lovely to look back and remember. So make sure you take lots and lots of pics

| LOL, I knew it was some sort of mistake. One year olds are such a JOYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY. I love kids !!! Mine are all grown up now. 21 and 17 . I miss that. Lucky you !!! ENJOY every second of it because they are grown before you know it. Thank you once again Mika's Mom for ALL of your kindness. I suppose we will just have to wait and see how Ceasar turns out. If you would like to see pics of our Yorkies feel free to check out my album. Take care and have a GREAT day !!! |
