| stinky fur on back legs Does anyone know how to keep the back smelling as fresh and clean as the front and the rest of the coat? Blossom smells really good everywhere except there. By the third day after her bath the pee smell starts and I have to bathe her only on the back legs which is not a huge problem but I was wondering if anyone else has a sloppy tinkler. I there a certain way to trim the hair? I asked the groomer to trim her short near there and I thought she did but we still have the problem. Blossom is just not very neat when she goes. Does anyone have any pictures to show the best way to trim the back? Thanks to anyone for any suggestions. |

| on female long hair breeds I usually trim very close around their little bottom, then cut the inside of the back legs short at the top. Sometime if the owner mentions having a "tinkle smell problem" I will cut it short all the way down to the hock or "knee" You can't see that part anyway and it also helps prevent matting!

| I had this problem with Harmony. Her hair is almost floor length. She would look so nice and clean except for her back legs. She seemed to be peeing on them, although I can't figure out how. So her legs would be all sticky and smelly just two days after bathing her. I just couldn't stand it. So I shaved the inside of her legs down to the ankle. We haven't had a problem since and she now looks and smells great all over and you can't tell I shaved her legs unless she is laying on her back.

| Thanks for the responses. I think I will ask my groomer to shave the inside back legs. I didn't realize you can't see it so I'll give that a try. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | On male dogs, you cut a little "pee sting" this is about a 1 inch length of hair from the tip of the penis area. It doesn't need to be very thick, but should be at least an inch. This string guides the stream so it doesn't splatter all over the place. It really works well, I don't know how this relates to females though.

| I trim my girls for summer more in the back, now they start having back their long coat and when they smell like pee I wash their bottom to refresh them, but if it get to cold I will have to trim back their coat again |
