| Question about Stewie following us!... I have absolutely fallen in love with my little baby Stewie. He just turned 4 months old today! One quick question for the more experienced Yorkie owners... I don't seem to understand why (even if he is sound asleep) he will wake up and follow me out of a room, or to the bathroom ect. Is the little guy insecure? In the same breathe, he will wander around the house on his own and go to the 2nd or 3rd floor while we are downstairs....so i don't think he is totally co-dependant. Any ideas whats going through this pups head? Thanks! |

| Shadow does that, too. usually there's a parade following me to the bathroom. In no specific order there will be my 3 year old daughter, Shadow and Gabby. At night when my daughter is asleep, the cat joins the parade. |

| Lucky does the same. If I go to the bathroom he is right there with me. When I get up in the mornings he gets up even though I get up early and hubby is still sleeping. He is my lil shadow. lol. I would'nt have it any other way though.

| Cash does it too. He is almost two years old and he still follows me around - especially when we visit my parents. They have two staffies and my family doesn't really like Cash because he is a lot more cheeky than the staffies and he gets into fights with them - nothing serious to date. The cute thing is that I have taught him to choose between staying in or going out if I have to close the door. So I go: "In or Out?" and he decides for himself. I have been calling him my "stertjie" (my tail)

| All of my dogs have always done this, both Yorkie and non-Yorkie. Although I don't mind it one bit and actually enjoy the company it drives my DH nuts!! I think it's because the are pack animals and the pack follows the leaders. If the leader decides it's time to get up and move, then the pack simply follows. Whether they are sleeping, eating, playing, the pack follows the leaders. If we are our babies pack leader then no matter where we are going or what they are doing, they will follow. They have no way of knowing you are just going down the hall to the bathroom, they simply see the leader moving so they move too. Now that being said, I've had some where this instinct wasn't as strong as in others. And some that would leave anything to follow. For them, I tried to be aware of the trait and if I knew me walking off would cause them to quite eating, I would try to schedule 'dinner time' around other things I could do in the kitchen so that they wouldn't have to worry about bolting down their meal before the pack moved on. The other thing is that they really do love to simply be wherever we are. So if we get up and move to a different room, they want to go too. Although the whole bathroom thing can get rather crowded when everyone wants to be in the room with you. And the looks on their faces is hysterical. "Hey Momma, why can't I be up in your lap? Pick me up, Momma. Your just sitting there, I'll bring a toy and we can play."

| Gypsy does the same thing. At night I can move my cover and she is off the bed and waiting at the end of it. My chi is a different matter. She waits to see if I am going out of sight first. Our bathroom is off the bedroom with another door at the other side of the bathroom. If I turn the corner here comes little feet just a flying to follow Gypsy.

YT 1000 Club Member | I am so glad to see I am not the only one with a parade whenever I move somewhere. Right now I have 4 that follow me everywhere. I think I may need to add more in a few years.

| Check out the thread "Do they ever stop following you?" Posted by Blabbyb... I've copied her question below and the short answer is - No they don't stop following you, this is common behavior regardless of whether they are a puppy or an adult... but there are lot's of good answers to Blabbyb's question on that thread. Enjoy your "shadow who loves you so much she does not want you out of her sight!! " .... Pita (15 weeks) follows my every move. As much as I love her, I wish she didn't follow me everywhere. She will even get up to follow me if she is sleeping and then I leave the room. This makes me feel guilty for disturbing her sleep! Do any of your yorkies do this and is there an age that they stop? |
