| Beverly Hills Chihuahua likely to cause a surge in abandoned Chi's With the new Beverly Hills Chihuahua Disney movie, rescue groups and shelters are expecting a surge of abandoned Chihuahuas. People go out and buy one for the kids after seeing the movie, not understanding the responsibilities, and abandon them later after the novelty wears off or reality sets in. The American Dog magazine sold here in Denver and Chicago is offering a free subscription to those who buy their kid a toy Chihuahua instead and send in the receipt. The American Dog Magazine: Your Dog. Your Family. Your Lifestyle. Chihuahua rescues are gearing up. You can do your part by boycotting the movie and discouraging people you know from buying a Chihuahua just because they thought it was cute in the movie. Educate them about the responsibilities and commitments of owning a pet, especially a tiny one. Chihuahua Rescue We rescue Chihuahuas at Chihuahua Rescue. As seen in People magazine, TV & more- Sanctuary for over 200 dogs. A similar crisis happened after the Disney 101 Dalmations movies. So here we go again.

| i understand people are going to buy chis, after the movie and there will be problems just like with 101 dalmations but everyone is free to do what they want and if someone wants to produce the movie they will...thats their right...yep will probably be some chi s looking for new homes...and its not right or fair but just because some people are ignorant enough to buy them just because of the movie, the whole movie should be removed from the public? not looking to get slammed just a different view |

| Yes, I believe in personal responsibility. I've been trying to find out whether Disney at least is donating some of the profits to Chihuahua rescues and shelters. So far I haven't found any such news. That would be the ethical thing to do.

Yes fools will do what fools will do what they do but it ok for those of us not fools to see where this is going and be worried. We can all see that Puppymills will be getting more chi's in to meet the need. profittering off of a dog is not a good thing and Walt is doing it again. JL

| Disney should at least produce a commercial or something at the end of the movie making people aware of this problem, or at least say "hey if your going to get one anyway, get a rescue first."

So there is a free magazine but can we think about the responsiblity of ownership first. Free stuff makes people do silly things. Oh and if we can get some of the profit from the movie and a comercial with a puppymill.. heres where you dog will come from if you jump and do not do your home work that be great. JL

You misunderstand; the Magazine People are saying get a free subscription to our magazine, if you buy a STUFFED ANIMAL Chihuahua, instead of a real dog. See the link: The American Dog Magazine: Your Dog. Your Family. Your Lifestyle. To the OP, I don't think you should encourage people to boycott the movie, Disney makes movies about pets, and you could say this about lots of their movies. The overall message is usually a good one, and why should the rest of us not get to see it, just because some ignorant person, will go out and buy one afterwards? Maybe we could encourage the Disney people to have a public announcement before or after the movie.

Donating YT Addict | oh my gosh..... i didn't realize people did things like that. I've never let a movie influence my decision to buy something or not. But i do see how this is a big concern.

| [QUOTE=Nancy1999;2261350] QUOTE] Will so see I missed something that ok too... free chi and a free mag great stuffed is better then a live one. I was not saying do not go to the movie go have fun by all means. What was said is that we are going to see an increase of chi in puppymills. Lets go along more where are those dogs going to fit. Keenels will not expand they will kill dogs already there. Oh and if I was really being picky wonder how these dogs are trained. Oh and like the last movie about dogs with the little huskies just how many got killed in the making of it? JL

| i think the magazine is trying to PREVENT people from going out and buying a chihuahua...cause they want you to buy a stuffed one...not a real one!! I actually have a little stuffed chihuahua ...its Pasquale's second favorite toy. I would hate to make a decision on whether Disney was in the wrong without having seen the movie. In today's society people make alot of prejudgement calls before seeing ALL the facts. Just my opinion.

i also think that it would benefit if they did a commercial or preiview about doing your home work, talking to a rescue and showing footage from puppy mills...that is a great idea | |
