| Scam alert! A girl I work with was looking for a Yorkie. She saw an ad in the Lexington Herald for a puppy. It only had an email address. When she emailed, the lady said she had sold the puppy to an American missionary. She gave the girl I work with his email address. He said he is in South Africa and wants to sell the puppy because it is too hot for it. The girl said, "I think this is a scam, will you look at it?" When I did, it was certainly a scam! The language was not remotely that of an American. I was just like one of those letters telling you The King of Nimibia died and you are his long lost cousin. She called the newspaper and they said, they get those at least once a month. Pet scams need to be publicized more often. Has anyone else had a similar incident? | When I was looking for a puppy I ran across a scam similiar to that one. It was a missionary supposedly living in India. It was in our local newspaper and they said they purchased three puppies from their home town in Kansas before they moved and could not keep them. They also said something about not being able to sell them in India because there were not loving families there (whatever that means). They sent pictures of very cute and very small yorkies and said they were free. He said that I would need to pay for the shipping of the dog which he would take care of after I sent him $500. When I said that I was not comfortable with that he gave me a website of the shipping company which had endless gramatical errors and didn't make any sense. I work for a bank and get trained on all sorts of scams so I recgonized it right away but I worry too about people that might fall for these! |

| that happened to me! i searched the internet for puppies, and more than half the ads or whatever out there are scams!!! i was desperately trying to find a yorkie in MA or nearby, so i could drive to get my baby instead of having her shipped to me, but i didn't want to spend a million dollars. i remember one posting in MA and i emailed w/ the lady and she said how her husband just brought the yorkie to africa, but the puppy wasn't happy and it was too hot there... at that point i stopped talking with her knowing it was a scam. if it sounds too cheap to be true, it prolly is. watch out. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | The same thing happen to me, and it was in the local paper, not one of the free papers. I'm so glad I found Yorkietalk, there are so many things to be careful of when buying a dog.

| I almost got scammed too!! The lady wanted $150 for a yorkie and claimed she was from my state and lived about 3 hours from me. I was willing to drive to pick up the puppy! But when she told me I would need to money gram the money to her son who was going to school in south africa I was like no way. I emailed her and told her I felt she was scamming me and she got all offended and I never heard from her since. |

| an obvious scam and i fell for it i was almost a recent victim of a puppy scam. i was looking in the state paper and came across 5 ads for people giving their Yorkie for free. i replied to all of them 4 replied. 3 of them were all out of camaroon with pictures of the same exact dogs. i thought it was weird and i emailed them all asking did they know each other or something and they never responded so i knew right away they were a scam. the last one said she was in nigeria on a mission she sent me pictures and we conversed back and forth thru email and i said i would send the money this thursday after i got paid. my boyfriend said not to western union the money and to use paypal. i didn't want to do it because i thought it was too much of a hassle, so he started scaring me with all these questions about scams. just to shut him up i emailed the people to ask to set up paypal and they have not responded. we looked up how to detect internet scams online and right there was a sample of a scam that was the exact same email i got word for word. needless to say i was devastated. luckily i am not out of any money but i am out of the dog i have been wanting for years. can anyone tell me how i can find a healthy Yorkie without being scammed or paying an arm and a leg |

| Yep happened to me too! I heard from the african missionaries and another from a couple that lived on Victoria Island. It was very obvious though that it was a total SCAM and i emailed them back and told them that. I never heard back LOL |

| so the people i was talking about just replied to me after i asked them about using paypal they said that the shipping agent can't use paypal because he doesn't have asscess to his account in nigeria. which i looked up and that is true but he could have just looked it up also. then he made me feel bad by saying he is a man of god and he knows there are scams out there and he would never do that. i don't know what to do because i really wanted that dog |
