| Help.. Should I take Smoky on vacation with me? Hello, I'm new to Yorkie Talk, but find everyone here so helpful. My mother and I are thinking of taking a vaction in October to Myrtle Beach, SC. I mentioned taking Smoky (my 14 month old Yorkie with me). My mom said she wouldn't mind at all. I've never travelled that far (12 hours and he isn't fond of the car) with a dog, and was wondering if anyone had any input. How often to stop and let him stretch his legs? Should I get something from the vet to sedate him? When we go out to dinner, leave him in his kennel in the hotel room?? I would miss him terribly, but would he be happier at home with my sister in law checkin in on him daily? Any help is greatly appreciated. |

| Well personally I take my Jamie almost everywhere with me. He's been to Nashville and New Orleans in just the last few months alone. Nashville was a 6 hour drive for us and he pottied when we stopped to get gas about half way. He actually slept for most of the trip. When we were there we found a couple of places to eat that were pet friendly on their patios and he came with us. We did go to eat at one nicer resturaunt that he couldn't come, and so he took a nap in his crate. Of course after all the excitement of the day, he was ready to sleep anyway. If he has trouble with the car then I believe there is a product that some members here use.... Rescue Remedy maybe??? Here are some tips: 1.) Make sure your hotel is pet friendly. 2.) Ask them if you are allowed to leave your pet crated for a couple of hours while you go out to eat. Offer to leave a cell number with the front desk in case they need to contact you (barking, etc...) 3.) Look around online for pet friendly things to do in your destination. More places will allow a dog in a carrier than you know. (When Jamie was just a puppy he toured Mardi Gras World with us from his carrier.)

| Thank you both for your input. I've called the hotel (Crown Reef @ the south end of the beach) we've always stayed at, and they are NOT pet friendly. So I must do some further checking. |

| If there is a Starwood hotel (Sheraton, Westin, W) in the area, I've always found them to be EXTREMELY pet friendly. And as a Starwood Preferred Guest you build points for upgrades and free nights.

| I would take him if possible. It would be hard for me to be away from my boys for that long. BUT, if you decide to leave him home. I babysit dogs, and I'm near Indpls. I have references. PM me if you would like more info!! Either way, enjoy your trip!!
