| Update, just in case. Just in case anyone was wondering. I thought Tila had worms, and I took her to the vet today. And good news. No worms, no fleas! Thank goodness. I was so happy. I took a sample in and the vet checked it and did an exam and she didn't find anything. I told her that she scratches and I thought it may be fleas, but she checked Tila over and didn't find anything. I also checked with her about the food I'm feeding them, and she said it was good food. She said to be safe I could de-worm everyone anyways, so I have to give them their pills, and I'm so not looking forward to giving it to the cats. Wish me luck. Thanks. |

| Glad everything's okay! When I had cats and had to give them pills I used to wrap them up tight in a large towel so only their head is poking out. Hold them securly under my arm and with that hand gently prise open their mouth. Use the free hand to pop the pill at the back of their tongue then hold their mouth closed. Use my fingers to gently stroke their throat in a downwards direction til they swallowed. It never took long to get them down and neither them or I would get hurt. Sometimes it helps to rub a little cod liver oil or butter on the pill so it slides down better. Good luck

| How to Give a Cat a Pill 1. Pick up cat and cradle it in the crook of your left arm as if holding a baby. Position right forefinger and thumb on either side of cat's mouth and gently apply pressure to cheeks while holding pill in right hand. As cat opens mouth, pop pill into mouth. Allow cat to close mouth and swallow. 2. Retrieve pill from floor and cat from behind sofa. Cradle cat in left arm and repeat process. 3. Retrieve cat from bedroom, and throw soggy pill away. 4. Take new pill from foil wrap, cradle cat in left arm, holding rear paws tightly with left hand. Force jaws open and push pill to back of mouth with right forefinger. Hold mouth shut for a count of ten. 5. Retrieve pill from goldfish bowl and cat from top of wardrobe. Call spouse from garden. 6. Kneel on floor with cat wedged firmly between knees, hold front and rear paws. Ignore low growls emitted by cat. Get spouse to hold head firmly with one hand while forcing wooden ruler into mouth. Drop pill down ruler and rub cat's throat vigorously. 7. Retrieve cat from curtain rail, get another pill from foil wrap. Make note to buy new ruler and repair curtains. Carefully sweep shattered figurines and vases from hearth and set to one side for gluing later. 8. Wrap cat in large towel and get spouse to lie on cat with head just visible from below armpit. Put pill in end of drinking straw, force mouth open with pencil and blow down drinking straw. 9. Check label to make sure pill not harmful to humans, drink 1 beer to take taste away. Apply Band-Aid to spouse's forearm and remove blood from carpet with cold water and soap. 10. Retrieve cat from neighbor's shed. Get another pill. Open another beer. Place cat in cupboard, and close door onto neck, to leave head showing. Force mouth open with dessert spoon. Flick pill down throat with elastic band. 11. Fetch screwdriver from garage and put cupboard door back on hinges. Drink beer. Fetch bottle of scotch. Pour shot, drink. Apply cold compress to cheek and check records for date of last tetanus shot. Apply whiskey compress to cheek to disinfect. Toss back another shot. Throw Tee shirt away and fetch new one from bedroom. 12. Call fire department to retrieve the cat from across the road. Apologize to neighbor who crashed into fence while swerving to avoid cat. Take last pill from foil wrap. 13. Tie the little demon's front paws to rear paws with garden twine and bind tightly to leg of dining table, find heavy-duty pruning gloves from shed. Push pill into mouth followed by large piece of filet steak. Hold head vertically and pour 2 pints of water down throat to wash pill down. 14. Consume remainder of scotch. Get spouse to drive you to the emergency room, sit quietly while doctor stitches fingers and forearm and removes pill remnants from right eye. Call furniture shop on way home to order new table. 15. Arrange for SPCA to collect mutant cat from hell and call local pet shop to see if they have any hamsters. How To Give A Dog A Pill 1. Wrap it in something. 2. Toss it in the air.

| I never rely on a fecal exam to tell me if my dogs have worms. My vet told me many years ago that worms are like chickens: they don't lay eggs every day and if you happen to do a fecal exam on a day they aren't laying eggs, you will get a negative result. So... I always keep my dogs on a worming schedule, and worm them whether they need it or not. I don't bother doing fecals. Some people might not agree with this but it works for me! |

| I do worm them, everyone was done, and they are given them when they're supposed to. I freaked a little and took her in to get checked. NO fleas! I was so happy. lol. Thank you TeresaM for that post on how to give a cat a pill! LOL! It was awesome. I did give everyone their pills last night and it was no problem to give the dogs theirs, done in no time, D'art my young cat was soooo easy! it took like two seconds. My mom held him wrapped in a towel (past experience) and I opened his mouth, popped the pill in and he licked his nose and gone! And then I opened his mouth again, popped the half of pill in there and he licked his nose and done! No squirming, no claws, no drool, no foam! I couldn't believe it, he then sat in my brothers arms pancaking his arm, and watched the ceiling fan go around and around. Simba, the 'ole fart was a different story, he clamped his mouth shut, refused to swallow, foamed, drooled, scratched. lol. But finally, finally we got them down. Thank goodness, until next time. lol. |
