| Bully Sticks I'm thinking about ordering some Merrick Bully Sticks..but I don't want to waste money on them if they aren't going to work. Do your dogs "fight" over them? My boys play fight with toys all the time and I'm scared it might escalate if we bring a Bully Stick into the mix. When I would give the rawhide sticks (years ago before they were "bad")...we would give one to each dogs and next thing I would know Champ would have both of them. Lucky wouldn't put up much of a fight considering he was deaf, blind, and barely mobile, but I KNOW Rowdy would if Champ tried to steal his. Also, is Merrick the best brand? And how bad do they really smell? Do they get all over the carpet? Thanks! |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hmmm, my guys each get their own - and they don't fight over it, so I don't have any great advice there. I get my Bully Sticks at a great price on eBay from eddieb260 - I get a huge 2lb. bag for $17, which lasts forever.

| My dogs do squabble over the bully sticks. For the 4 adults I give 7 bully sticks. Chattie always winds up with at least 4 of them - laying on them like a dragon's hoard - sometimes she winds up with all of them with three pitiful pups looking on as she happily chews away. |

| Mine fight over them too. They usually work it out but it's not pleasant at first.

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | Are the bully sticks treats or do they also help with the tartar problem? I've read about them here, but never purchased them and Im curious to find out.Do you brake them, or feed hole? Do they "smell"?

| I had to stop giving bully sticks at our house. My girls would fight like crazy over them Vicious growling and biting and all They each would have their own, but Izzy wanted ALL of them So I just stopped getting them. They've never fought over anything the way they did those bullies

| I only have one dog so fighting isn't an issue here. I order mine from AMD (PM her if you want specifics). Her website is http://www.westbrookdog.com. I pay via paypal and they arrive fast. The issue with the Merrick bully sticks is they stink. You can smell them even if you are sitting on the couch and your babies are chewing on the floor. AMD's don't stink and Scooter loves them more than any other bully I have ever tried. I normally buy her 7' sticks but since she is currently out until late Sept, I had to buy some 5' sticks. They are good too. I will buy 30 at a time for Scooter because he is a serious chewer and loves them. I recommend AMD's bully sticks and if you try them, I hope your babies love them as much a Scooter does. Good luck!

Depending on what kind you buy and how they are made, yes, some do smell. Some are so stinky that you really can't stand them. They are thin enough for Scooter to lay on the floor and hold it on his own....he normally wraps his legs around them and goes to town. My advice is try a few different kinds and see which one your baby really likes best, and which of them you can deal with (in case you buy some stinky ones). Once you find some, buy them in bulk. For example, I have one Yorkie (no other animals) and I live in a small condo yet I have been buying at least 30 at a time. I am truly considering ordering 100 the next time I run out because they are such a hit.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Yes, I love the Merrick brand; I mean Joey loves them. I got over a years worth when I bought them on e-bay; they are individually wrapped, and have no expiration date, and use no preservatives. They preserve them through a drying process. The first ones we opened seem to be much stronger smelling than the ones we opened up later on. I live in AZ were the air is very dry, and I don't know if this is the reason that they don't seem to have much of an odor now, or there is some other reason. He loves them now as much as when they were new. It's very durable, one six inch stick last a whole week, and he loves them. By the way, some companies do use preservatives, and I don't like that if it's not necessary. Also some brands do have an expiration date on them, and one member who used a bully stick after the expiration date claimed her dog became very ill, so you would want to be careful of this.
