| Urine stains Hi guys I have a question. I got Mia from a puppy mill and I already had Rock a Lab. He is was a great dog. He never went in the house number one or two. But Mia is not fixed and leaves messes. He seems to be peeing over them now. I am working on potty training her. She has been with us for a year. She is doing well but because she lived in such horrible conditions for like two years she is hard to break of old habits. But I need help getting rid of urine now and the odor and to get Rock to stop peeing there any suggestions. Thanks a million. I am going to have problems I realize but I need to get rid of the odor from my carpets and chair. Thanks again |

| odor remover- 1 bottle hydrogen peroxide, 1 tsp Dawn dish soap, 1 tblsp baking soda.. mix in a container and pour on stains.. let dry totally then sweep up. This has never discolored any of my carpet but feel free to do a test patch. It does remove odors.

Senior Yorkie Talker | that's a great suggestion, I've tried everything myself, steam cleaning, laundry soap, Odoban and nothing has worked for me either, I'm going to try this.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | If you understand a little about the chemistry of urine and feces stains, it easier to understand why certain products work, and others don't. Urine and feces contain a protein that regular cleaning products don't get rid of, only those products with an enzyme, which is a bacteria, that eats protein work on these stains. Other types of cleaners might get rid of the mark or stain to your eyes and nose, but the dogs will still smell the protein and return to the spot. It is wired into their brain to return to the spot and this is why any scent of the odor has to be removed. Neutralizers don't work for the same reason, your nose won't smell the urine, but the dog's nose will. Using the enzyme cleaners is a little different than using regular cleaners. You have to moisten the area with the cleaner and allow to air dry. I usually will spray the spot, place an old towel on the spot and stand on it; this absorbs most of the pee. This is the important part: Next, thoroughly saturate the spot with the enzyme cleaner, and allow to air-dry. While it's drying the enzymes eat the protein, and the protein is what causes the smell to which the dog is attracted. You can also use a small black light and see all the spots on the carpet and spray these. Pet stores sell small black lights for this purpose. You can't rush this process, some areas might be so bad they have to be resprayed because urine has soaked into the surface or padding. Most of the time this gets out the "visual" stain, sometimes especially with an older stain, you might have to use another product. Hot Shot is my favorite.

| can you add all these to a spray bottle and then use it when necessary? Or does it have to be used immediately?

Therapy Dog Donating Member | Thanks all for the great suggestions. I've tried Nature's Miracle for the small accidents but I'm looking for something to put in the my home carpet cleaner and some of these ideas might work!! Can I add Nature's Miracle to my carpet cleaning solution for my Oreck steam cleaner?

| Yes, but don't put the lid on tight. Could have a chemical reaction

| Nature's Miracle Nature's Miracle makes a carpet shampoo that I found at Petco. I have to admit that I love the smell of the spray nature's miracle. It just smells clean. The carpet shampoo didn't really have a scent. I shampoo'd the family room yesterday though and this morning the room smells like NOTHING. I am doing my room and the living room over the next two days. (Of course, right after I finished the carpet I put one of Zoe's puppy pads down and she went to pee. She had her feet on the pad but peed on the carpet So I got to spray a little cleaner on the clean carpet right off the bat) She hasn't had any accidents since so i can't tell you if it has helped her for sure or not.. I'm willing to bet that you can use the spray just like you do the shampoo though. Jen |
